I read the consumer product safety commission proposal on importing and distributing and it looks like you could build kids sized act's legally still.


Also if we could get the government to establish a standard for three wheeled atv's the ban would theoretically be lifted.

Each of the ATV Companies committed not, to distribute new three-wheel ATVs in the
United States unless and until such vehicles are subject to mandatory standards promulgated by
CPSC or voluntary standards satisfactory to the Commission."

The Consent Decrees hrther required the distributors to offer free hands-on training
courses to ATV purchasers and to emphasize safety information and warnings in ATV
advertisements and promotional materials. The distributors were also required to represent
affirmatively that ATVs with engine sizes between 70 cc and 90 cc should be used only by those
12 and older and that ATVs with engine sizes greater than 90 ccs should be used only by those
16 and older. The distributors committed to use their "best efforts," working through their retail
dealers, reasonably to assure that ATVs would not be purchased by or for the use of any persons
under these specified ages.

From what I recall, it ended in 1996. The "ban" was only in effect for 10 years.

The ban was for ten years starting in 1986. There were some 1987s already produced. Some of them sold, lots of them got crated up. OMG, to find a crated 1987 Honda ATC 350X or 250SX!!! I might just kill for one of those machines. Now the manufacturers don't want to touch them with a ten foot pole. There are too many liability issues. All because parents bought their kids machines that they couldn't handle because of their young age and reckless abandon. I feel terrible for those kids that died or ended up parallelized. But, I blame their parents.

Consent decree has been over for years. Start making them and if they are worth a crap I will buy one.

Curiosity strikes, I have a 83 (1st year 225dx) they had a twist throttle that year {love that thing lol} first 3 wheeler I learned on.. BUT ANYWAYS.

what did the man tell you?

I have to assume a loved one was killed/paralyzed on the 225?

but would love to hear the story of whatever he said to you.
