    No spark honda

I just picked up a 1981 Honda 200 for $100, it is pretty clean but I cant get any spark. I checked the coil, wire, plug and all the conections and they are all good. What am I missing, any advice? Oh buy the way the timming chain is good also.

have you tried cleaning the points? When I got my little 185s it didn't have any spark either. My older brother cleaned the points and it fired right up. How dows your carb look inside? Might need to be cleaned?

    Stator

Don't forget to check the stator assembly. If it is bad there will be no spark.

The 185's did not have points. They use a CDI ignition.

I agree here 100%. 9 times out of 10 ten the Exciter coil goes bad. Take a ohm meter and check the black with red striped wire. You should have 215-240 ohms. The lower the ohm reading the less spark you will have.

Hey,do the 80' 110s have points? I hear points are easy to work with just in case my 110 starts acting up. thanx

Yes, the 1980 110's do have points. Or at least they should unless someone changed the whole electronics out with a newer model.

Ok cool, the electrical looks pretty simple. Also, how do you adjust the timing? It is not as fast as it should be, and when it gets into the high rpms, it bogs down. thanx

under the CDI cap. the stater is the center peice that turns. it has 2 springs that hold it in and as it rotates faster it starts to move out advnacing the spark for mroe power up top in higher rpm's. if the springs are bad, or it's rusted shut it won't spark right.

there are 3 screws that hold the pickup. loosen them up and you can rotate the pickup but you need to be careful, too much advance and she no workie either.

The stator coil would be under the left sidecase behind a flywheel wouldnt it? Not sure on the older 200's though, just though they should all be like that, points unit or not.

The stator is located behind the flywheel. The flywheel is located behind the pullstarter.

    Oscar,
The item behind the CDI cap is called a spark advancer.

you have to order an acutal flywheel puller from online. i also used an impact on the but to remove mine as the inital snap seems to help get it off faster and with less damage actually.
