    Atc110 knocking after cam

Hey guys new to building engines, i tossed a cam in the other night and there is knocking happening. She starts up first pull, blows some blue smoke.. checked valve clearances at tdc. I think im doing everything correctly but if you have any ideas let me know! Thanks!

You're not doing it correctly so get that out of your head. If it was correct it wouldn't smoke or knock.

Valves must be adjusted not only at tdc but at tdcc. There is a top dead center twice in the 4 stroke cycle.

Watch the intake valve open, then close, TDCC will come very shortly after that.

"Tossed a cam in"... A new one? An old one? Stock, hi perf, what? Give more detail on your parts and process.

Dont misunderstand... They get adjusted only ONCE, BOTH when the piston is at TDCC. You could very well have been on the exhaust stroke when you adjusted them. Did you install new rockers?

Throwing expensive parts at engines isnt the best way to learn.

You probably didnt time it right. Sounds like your piston is smacking the valve. Now you'll probably need a whole new topend.
