    First time 3wheeler owner, got some questions

    Always wanted a 3 wheeler and I can finally got my hands on an early gen Honda. First off I’m curious if anyone could help identify the year since I can’t find a vin number on it? Also curious of the sub-model (x,s etc) I believe the seller said it was a 1981 but I haven’t found much online that looks like it. Next up is the lever on the left side of the handlebar, it’s missing on this machine but I’m guessing it’s the clutch lever? Previous owner was riding it without it. Last I’d like to know if I can bypass the air box under the seat by putting an air filter on the intake side of the carb for now? Just to get it going until I can buy a filter and crossover tube. I’ve attached an image for reference not a bad deal for $1000 with two project motors, and it runs decent

    If thats your bike in the picture its an auto-x, someone changed out the engine for an auto one with pull start, and no clutch. I cant tell u the yr, it is a 83-85 honda 200x though.
    Save up for an airbox is what i'd recommend. Hows she run?
    The pic u loaded has a blurred out "photobucket" across it. Looks like a pull start through the blurryness.

    Thanks for the reply, I thought I’d done the photo upload correctly but I guess not lol. The photo is the one I purchased that sounds about right it the pull start. Runs good but it’s a little choppy I was told it just needs a new carb but it does start and ride good enough to rip around the yard, needs a couple things like air filter, tube that connects the air box to carb, caliper for rear brakes but I hope I can save the thing still. Also found some oil on the bottom of the motor so I hope it’s nothing major, definitely have my work cut out for me

    85 ATC 250R - restored stock other than 18" rears, nerf bars, Honda key switch, 14T front sprocket, and white tank and plastics (except rad shrouds)

    87 ATC 200X - restored stock other than 18" rears and nerf bars

    84 TRX 200 - rough but complete budget restore for wife and eventually daughters to bum around on

    Assuming that everything besides the engine is as original, then judging by the tank decals, the blue seat cover, and the blue fork boots, it's a 1985 200X frame. If you're running it around without an air filter, then it's running lean. Without the boot that connects the sir box to the carb, you're running it with no air filter. You can use a clamp on air filter, but you'll need to jet richer since it has more air flow than the stock set up. This may be your running issue. Properly jetted, there's no reason why you can't use the clamp on style air filter permanently. I love my AutoX. Here's my air filter set up.Click image for larger version.

ID:	264203 I have gotten rid of the K&N style filter and gone to a Uni foam filter for better filtration in dusty conditions.

    Good deal I figured I’d have to re-jet if I was going to mess with it, what size did you use with an aftermarket filter? Also it’s parked in the garage until it gets fixed up didn’t want to run it without a filter anyway. Nice wheeler ����

    Since I clamped it onto the red "adapter", yours won't be the same size as mine. Mine is a 3 1/2" I.D. (where it clamps on) and it's 6" long. If you're going to clamp it straight onto the carb, just measure tha carb where it will attach and you'll have the right I.D. size. My guess would be that it's around 2 1/4" or 2 1/2".

    Yup, thought I recognized it. I've been looking everywhere for a 86/87 grab bar and taillight for my 87 so I'm on FB marketplace nightly, lol.
