Honda 200es ( starter motor problem ) need advise please
Hello, Not posted for a while now but I'm over from the UK & have a 200es , I have spent 2 - 3 years getting it to a fairly good totaly original condition & found a problem with the starting. Its a euro spec 1985 ES200 & the starter sounds like a bucket of bolts when you crank it useing the switch, have stripped & cleaned the starter twice & I beleive that to be 100% correct, some times when you start it on the switch it sounds like scraping gears in a truck, its a awfal noise, I have also checked the starter motor gears which all look fine, Its a front mount starter motor, Am I correct thinking there is a one way bearing ( sprag clutch ) in the starter gear behind the flywheel ?

Yes there is, a one way clutch behind the flywheel.

If you can't find parts diagrams for the '85 Euro model, you can just use the US ATC200ES. It's the same thing. A one year deal over here, 1984 only.
If those starter rollers aren't grabbing, they most certainly could cause a chatter. That's the thingamabobber behind the flywheel.

Thanks,
Never heard it called a " Thingamabobber " before but I guess I know what you mean,
