Teaching quads a lesson
New to me engine, Pull's over ok then when it fires the recoil rips your shoulder out of socket and then quits. Magneto set at T and cam lobes should be down with the pin on the cam shaft that holds the advance ... at 11 o clock position.. cam sprocket O is at top...then turned Mag to the F mark and set cdi straight at 12 o clock position...,,any ideas ?

Check the small springs on the rotor and or the cam is off a few teeth. Pull the rotor, set to TDC and verify the cam is in the right orientation. I bet its jumped a few teeth.

rotate the ring holding the pickup, clockwise just a little.
What about the 2 small springs on the backside of the rotor?
when you twist the rotor, does it spring back?
My " Walmart Special" bike was missing both springs, it would run (poorly), but every now and then rip the pull cord out of my hand. Installed new springs from Partzilla ($6 each) ran great after that.

. F on the mag. Is this ok ? or do I need it straight up to the left a tooth ? Still kicks back badly

Probably can't type right now; injured hand.
Recoil starters...a great way to punch yourself in the face with full force or pull your arm out of socket.
