250ES Kickstarter side cover off question

Between the kickstarter shaft and the manual clutch about 2 inches above the centerline of those two shafts, there's a shaft bore and also corresponding bore in the cover. Mine does not have a shaft there... is there supposed to be a shaft in there?

I was thinking the ATC350X might have something there, but the pic in this thread shows it empty as well. The core design is based on another engine likely, so it might have been part of a design for another engine that isn't used in the 250es/sx/350x.

I swear on some machine I saw an idler gear there, but can't recall which model it was.


.... Found it! TRX350/350D. I knew there was something different about their kick starter setup on those engines, the kick starter length is much shorter than the 250es/sx/350x, so I guess the other gear setup is different gearing so the kick starter isn't too hard to kick, hard to tell since the compression release works well on my machine (350x and 350d).

I think you're correct. Thanks for the reply. Funny thing is I'm actually in there because of kickstarter problem so that thread you referenced also helped out.
