Early ATC rear sprockets

I need a rear sprocket for my 1981 ATC 185s. It has the old damper style sprocket. Does anyone know a sprocket that might fit and allow me to get rid of the damper system, as it is wrecked anyways. It would be a shame to have to change axles in order to update the sprocket hub, as this one is in nice shape.

You can ditch the dampers and weld it solid, just make sure it is centered in the ring before welding. How do the teeth look?
I believe a 200x sprocket may fit the spline of the axle, someone else will verify that.

I just had a custom sprocket made up from PBI sprockets for my 125M. It bolted right up and eliminated the weird spacer hub design. It looks like they make one for your '81 185s, Item #3152. Little pricey for a sprocket, but it's beefy and you can customize the teeth for speed/acceleration.

You'll either have to find one of the aftermarket ones that was made to replace the cush drive system, or make an adapter to use a sprocket for another machine. The aftermarket ones aren't available new anymore, only NOS.

The custom sprockets someone already mentioned are aluminum. Sprocket Specialist only make aluminum ones anymore also, so no luck there. Those don't last nearly as long as a steel one, and still cost a lot more.

Whatever you bolt on there, has to have a slight offset, or dish, so it's placed over the center like the original one.


I gave one of the (Sunstar?) aftermarket ones away last year. I'll see if I can find the thread, because there's a picture of it in there.

Just bought the 3152 sprocket from PBI. We'll see if it works. Looks like it has an offset. Hope it's enough. Will let you know.
