    What does this do?

So a little while ago, I picked up a 83 Honda 200m. Plans on getting running and using it as a work horse and a ride. Starting to part out a 85(I think) Big red because it was gone. But it turned into a motor swap. I have it in and almost back together and I saw a wire hanging out the back of my transmission. What does that control and does it need to be plugged in? Sorry I can’t provide a pic of it.

200M would be a chain drive 200. 85 Big red would be a 250 Shaft w reverse. VIN # is on your steering stem, and you can verify exactly what you have with the internet very quickly.
Please help those who cannot help themselves.

Maybe it's the wire for the neutral light.
