    Honda atc 200m performance upgrades

I own an 84 200m and its time for a top end rebuild, but i want to get more power out of the bike.
I have read some other forums about people putting performance parts on their 200 M S and E models and i was thinking about going for a 200x piston and maybe a 200x carb.
I want to be able to make a noticeable power increase but safely and without damaging the engine or hurting it in the future. And also if i went for a 200x piston and carb would i have to run 91 octane gas.
If anyone has any other ideas on what i could do to get some more power out of the bike it would be greatly appreciated !

wont hurt anything. xr200 stuff is better then 200x. fly cut cylinder, 5 angle valve grinds, porting, high compression...you wont ever pull start it but the stater motor will start it up.

i was thinking about just rebuilding the top end with an x piston for now just to give it a freshen up and a bit higher compression for more power i found a pro x racing one for like 150 and i think i will give it a try, would a x carb or xr carb help or will it just be fine with the stock carb.

The easiest at home upgrades are; carb, cam, exhaust, gear change, tire size change.
    or find a 350x.

Yep, after doing all of that and the money/time it would cost for modest gains the money would be better spent on something else that's already loaded with more performance.

The other issue is engine heat. If the trike is to be rode in high summer temps and on slow speed trails a modified air cooled engine is going to suffer without some additional cooling either by installing an oil cooler or increasing the fin size on the cylinder head. Honda done that with their race only RS600 which looks like an XL600R engine but it was purpose build for flat track racing. For one, the cylinder head fins are much larger, like they done to the first gen 200X cylinder. There's no free lunch.

Other than building a hardtail for racing in a specific class I don't understand why they need any more power for recreational riding. A 185/200 with a good condition engine has more than enough power for trail riding and only has a fault if trying to stay up with large ATVs/UTVs on open roads where they're running 50mph+ for an extended time. That's not my kind of ATV riding anyway and I'd just ride a dual sport bike if that's what I was doing.
