KLT110 Carb Woes

I feel like I've typed those exact same words, years back. Been a while since I've been here!

To my shame, I've left my Kawasaki KLT110 sit for several years and of course the carb is all gummed up.
So I bought a carb kit on Ebay (seems like there's no good brand-name carb kits for this one) and when it showed up, the pilot jet doesn't fit!
So I went ahead and ordered a REAL kawasaki jet for it, and it's got the same thread. About .5MM wider than the one that was in it.
This Keihin carb is marked PC1648, and I can't for the life of me figure out where to get a jet that fits in it. Everything else fits.

Anyone know what jet is supposed to fit here? The body is about 4.3MM, and the one in the kit is more like 4.9MM.
Oh, and the old one broke apart while taking it out, so cleaning that one isn't an option.

Notice in the pic that the new jet looks like it's gonna fit, but then doesn't thread in.

I really don't want to buy a Chinese carb if I can help it.

I don't think so. If they give dimensions, that might be great. The trouble is that shopping by application isn't working. I've got TWO of these carb bodies, both identical, but if the Kawasaki pages are to be believed, they're not for the KLT110. It always ran great though, so that's weird. I'll check it out and let you know what I find. Thanks!

So I got the replacement pilot jet and it fits perfectly! Jetsrus.com isn't the fastest shipper in the world, but I got it, and it's correct. So now we see if I can get the float valve seat back in (that's another story) and get it back together.

I think taking on a Kawasaki trike is a bigger job than a Honda. Just not as much information out there and much less aftermarket support.

Does that needle seat have an O-ring? If there's corrosion, you may want to polish that hole as good as you can. May even have to build it up with some epoxy and refinish it to size if there's pitting.

Replaceable seats are kind of nice, but tend to just become another problem on older carbs. It's almost like they need pulled out once a year, just to keep them from almost bonding with the body. That's hyperbole, but it doesn't feel that way when they're really stuck in there.

No o-ring. It's just pressed in. So, full disclosure...I did something foolish. I have had a couple carb kits with replaceable float valve seats included, and when I glanced at this kit, I saw what I thought was the seat. Turns out I was incorrect. So I had pulled this one, and ruined it in the process. I had another one just laying around that also has a spiral groove in it from some tool that must have been used to take it out. Well, I've polished the hell out of it, in the hopes that the needle won't hang up, and then I used JB weld to put it back in place and make sure it seals. So if this failed, I won't be able to undo it! We shall see. So if this fails, I will do one of two things: either I will give in and take my chances on a Chinese carb, or I will spring for the Canadian version of this carb, which is surprisingly still available. I can't imagine it would be so different than the US version that it wouldn't work and fit the same way. But at $342 for a carb on a machine that's probably worth $500 on a good day, it's also not high on my list of desirable things! This WAS my first-ever trike though so it has a bit of sentimental value.

You're definitely right about the Kawasaki parts though! MUCH harder to find than any of my Honda trikes!

With the JB Weld, it's not exactly ruined if it doesn't work. It'll be a bit labor intensive to fix it though, even if that's just setting up equipment to properly machine it out. At the price of even a good used carb, I'd take the time to try and save it.

Thinking, is that carb coming from Canada, or are you able to just get that version through the US Honda importer, or whoever imports OEM parts? I know there's plenty of Japanese market OEM parts that aren't available in the US.

There can be many US companies selling parts, but only one importer.

Oh, of COURSE that's an easy out! Duh. Never even thought of that, because I don't think of using one in that situation. If it was me that removed it, I have no memory of it. It was just stuck loosely in another carb. So do you think I'll get away with using it with the grooves in it, or is it gonna hang up? I polished the hell out of it, but it didn't eliminate the grooves.

Prices aren't going to go up. I think he's just blustering about the tariffs, especially with CA. It's a Kawasaki part, and that availability is on Partzilla. The US part number is no longer available but what I assumed from a quick glance was Canada is actually CN. Not sure WHAT that means. Usually that's China, but I don't think a genuine Kawasaki part ever came from China, did it?

Never even thought of that, because I don't think of using one in that situation.

I use them for about everything they're not meant for because they mostly fail at that. A left handed drill bit has about an equal chance of removing a bolt they're capable of, without the higher risk of breaking one off in the work.

I'll use one with a 1/4" impact on a needle seat.. Ain't playing that game when I have a replacement in hand; upgrayedd.


That CN abbreviation seems awkward. I can see how there could be a couple North American versions, but a Chinese version? Doesn't make sense to me to lump North American and Asian market parts together. It's available though, so I guess that's all that matters, although I'm guessing neither of us or anyone reading knows what the differences are, as in actually laid eyes on one.

If I had to guess, it'd be due the differences of fuel available in each market when these were sold new.

Thanks folks for all your help! I finally got it back together. Ended up needing a new petcock, so had to wait for that. Starts right up, but the idle screw does absolutely nothing, and it bogs after half throttle. Sigh. It was a good effort, but I have to move on with my life. Bought a brand new carb!

Yeah, even more bummed about it now. Partzilla just refunded my money. Even though they said it was in stock, it now says 'No Longer Available'. I hate to stoop to a Chinese carb, but not sure what choice I have.
