    Question Very Strange ATC125M

    Good morning,
I have an ATC 125M that has some pretty strange differences between Google searches of the ATC 125M & what I have. I don't have a frame or a VIN, just the serial number on the case. TE01E-5007357 The serial number is listed as an '86 ATC 125M. The problem is that it will spark/run for only 4 seconds, electric or pull start.
    *It's mounted vertically,
*The cam side cover is a different shape & says Honda, not 125.
*Pulse Generator is inside the crankcase with the Stator stuff, not off the cam.
*The stator has 8 coils, not 4. I need one, it looks like what's in an ATC 250R but I don' know if it will fit. It has 2 wires to the rectifier, not 3. It puts out 45vac +/- when cranking but drops to zero as soon as it sparks for 4 seconds. It has voltage but can't sustain a load. It won't light the headlamp at all.
*The starter is different, I searched online for hours But I never found a new one that matched, I only found 2 used ones.
*It has a factory newer style 2 plug CDI.
*I've never found a service manual for it, & I'd love to find one.
*From Google, "1987 ATC125M's where fashioned to resemble the ATC185/200 models with a vertical up-swept engine. This sad fact explains the very low production numbers of the redesigned ATC125 model. The 1987 year model is even harder to find, once thought to not exist at all."
*It's on a workbench stand, I've checked every single wire and connection with a good VTVM. This engine will be going in another project, a 1967 Coot amphibious all terrain buggy.
What do I have & will an ATC 250M stator fit?
How do I add some photos of it?
    Thank you.

From what I gather, you have a second generation 125M. The vast majority of Honda ATC 125Ms are 1984-1985. The 1986-1987 models are pretty rare actually. Parts are super hard to come by. they do share some engine parts with the TRX125 from the same years.

There is no such thing as an ATC 250M. If you are speaking of the ATC200M - the answer is NO - the stator is not even close. If you want an engine to put in your 1967 Coot, I would highly recommend NOT using an 86-87 125M because the parts are so rare. Hope that helps.
RIP - Yamahondaman!! You will never be forgotten!
RIP - Sam Brehm!! Gone but NEVER forgotten!
RIP - Sandpuppi101 - You will live on in my mind - I miss you friend!
