    1985 200x and 1986 200x

Had a quick question about a part interchangeability for the 85 and 86 200x. I need to get a new muffler clamp for my 85 200x but nobody sells a new one, however, Honda sells a new 86 muffler clamp. Are the interchangeable? Honda has different part numbers for them but im assuming since they are both 200x models they are the same?

This is a bit of a gamble but the 1st gen 200X engine is very similar to the XR200R dirt bike engine which was sold until 2002.
You might have better success finding a clamp for the XR. Look at some photos online a try to tell if the clamps are similar.

Same part for the ATC185S and ATC200S.

No shortage of them on Ebay, although many aren't pretty and probably need thread repair. I think there's an NOS one on there now.

If you're not concerned with originality, stainless T clamps are a lot less of a headache and will more likely come off next time without breaking a bolt.

And no, the 85 and 86 200X clamps aren't the same. The 86 uses a more modern clamp, with two bolts, similar to what later Honda dirt bikes used. The XR200R up until 2001 uses the same clamp as the 86 200X.

You really do not need the clamp. Take the header and muffler to a weld shop. Have them cut off the part on the muffler that needs clamps due it 4 finger design. Any shop can install a peice of tubing to fit the correct length needed and weld back onto the muffler.

None of my machines with OEM mufflers use those clamps. Just gotta use the brain and think out side the OEM parts box

he '85 and '86 200X are pretty similar in a lot of ways, but Honda did make a few tweaks between the two years, which is probably why the part numbers for the muffler clamps are different. That said, it's very possible they’re interchangeable since the exhaust setups are nearly identical.

If the clamp looks the same and the diameter of the muffler and frame mounting points didn’t change (which I don’t think they did), you should be good to go. Worst case, you might need to do a slight modification to make it fit perfectly.

If you’re unsure, maybe grab some measurements off your current clamp (or where it mounts) and compare it to the specs for the '86 clamp before you buy. Or hit up someone parting out an '85 if you want to play it super safe

About the only same similar between the first and second gen 200X is the name.

There is no tweaking, Honda completely redesigned it.
