    Durablue 350x axle chain alignment

    Howdy,

The chain alignment appears off on a used Durablue +4 I bought off of ebay a couple of months ago, and am just now getting to install it. There is no part number that I can find, so any help with that would be great. But, it looks identical to the pictures on Durablue's website, right down to the sprocket hub. Also, the sprocket bolts bottom out against the axle carrier. I can trim the bolts or use thicker washers, but I shouldn't need to.

Is the sprocket hub mounted the correct way? Will flipping the hub around align the sprockets, and give the proper clearance? Are you sure the sprocket mounting bolts are the correct ones? Pics of what you got going on would be helpful.

Can a washer or 2 put between sprocket and hub line it up? I've had to do that before

If I remember correctly, the bolts that come with it work for the narrower flange 85 axle carrier, but they hit the 86 carrier. So if you have an 86, they want you to use an 85 sprocket without the countersunk bolts. If you have an 85, and the bolts are still hitting, they may not be the bolts that originally came with it. Wish they used metric threads and bolts instead of the SAE hardware store bolts they use. If the sprocket is still not lining up, make sure the flange on the axle is fitting into the dust seal on the axle carrier. They can be tight to slip in there.

I knew the 85 carrier was different than the 86 carrier, but didn't realize just how different. The axle came with matching grade 5 bolts. The flat and lock washers were all identical, too. I got new grade 8 bolts and washers to use. Not sure if the grade 5 hardware was what Durablue supplied, but I feel best with grade 8. I will have to trim the bolts to length.

As for the chain alignment; it is different than the stock setup. The 86 model year mounts the sprocket on the inboard side of the sprocket hub, putting it right next to the carrier. The Durablue mounts the sprocket on the outboard side of the sprocket hub, but there is no lateral binding of the chain, so it's probably within an acceptable amount of chain alignment (or misalignment). When I was swapping axles last week I had the bike hanging off the tailgate of my truck and I think I had an optical illusion going on. Now with it set up on jack stands (PRM nerf bars are perfect work supports) the chain angle looks much better.
