1982 Honda ATC 185s shift issue.
Hello all,
I am a new member here and have a question about a 82 185 I just picked up recently.
Has been sitting for years. Runs great, but shifting into 4th gear is weird. It will go in, but doesn't have that typical click feel to it. It just pushes down and that's "in" because of this it sometimes miss shifts and sticks between gears which is hard on the ears. every other gear seems to shift fine. Sometimes the shifter feels a bit weird when going through the gears. Like you have to shift up (lower gears) a bit hard sometimes.
I am thinking this could be an internal fork issue on the 4th, but thought I would ask here as I am fairly new to the atc's and have never broken one down. Only other thing I can think of would be the gear selector star thing, but every other gear seems fine, just 4th doesn't like to "click". Goes in and out fine, but if I don't push the shifter all the way down to the end range it miss shifts and there isn't a "click"
Any ideas or information helps!
Thanks,

Definitely get a manual so you can split the cases to inspect. I believe you have it figured out already. Just need to go in a fix it. My sons 70 did that when we first got it and it was a spacer between the gears that was missed placed. Look a couple years before I had the confidence to open it up. But was you do they are pretty simple.
