Honda missing drain hose on carb. Is it necessary?

Rebuilt the carb on my honda 185s and afterwards noticed I never had a hose coming off the bowl or bottom of the carb. I think it's for overflow? Is it necessary? Is there any issues associated with not having it. Goofy question but no shame in my game. I wouldn't even know where to route the hose.

It’s a good question, really. I suspect most don’t drain the carburetor after use. But I believe that is what it is for. The hose takes it down where you can collect it and save it.

I would say, having hoses on the carburetor overflow nipples will make for a more difficult path for foreign matter (dirt & water) to enter the carburetor. Mainly, any overflowed fuel (if hoses routed correctly) will be directed below and away from machine, thus preventing a potential fire hazard, as well as keeping your machine looking tidy.

I’d also say if you don’t drain the carburetor after use then there won’t be a problem not having one. Unless the drain screw leaks because the o-ring failed.

For me personally, I use it as an indicator if the float is stuck or not, I only get to ride like once a month, so I drain my carb (yes the hose does make it easy to collect) every so often from sitting the float will get stuck and I can quickly see the hose spitting fuel after I open the fuel valve. One quick tap on the fuel bowl with a screwdriver handle and I'm good to go.

I didn’t even think about the vent hole above the bowl. That’s a great observation I hadn’t considered. My BR 200e has that vent tube but the 350 is missing and although I don’t ride it every day it gets used. So Ill get that tube replaced and thanks a lot red rider and busboy for the topic.

No, it's not necessary. It's just a tube that allows you to drain the bowl of gas to the ground (cough) I mean safe container (cough) for storage/repair or when your floats stick. Helpful to have if your floats do stick so you're not pouring gas onto your engine... fires happen pretty easily.
