First Gen Tecate with 87 KX250 Motor Project
I'm currently restoring a KX250 engine that was built to the teeth and then beat into the ground. Parts are coming and it will be together within the next month most likely but I am planning on dropping it in my first gen Tecate 3. It will bolt right in but there is an issue with the difference of motors as the first gen motors exhaust curves out at about a 30 degree angle to clear the front frame tub while the second gen motor's exhaust goes straight through the front through a split frame up front. A while ago I saw a post of this guy who solved the exhaust problem by cutting the frames front tube and welding a an upside down Y above the exhaust and having the two frame pipes come down to the bottom of the frame. I am planning on doing this but do not know what kind of material I need to fabricate that setup with good frame strength. I'm doing this because I have two Tecates, one being very stock and very pretty. The second is a beast but in rougher shape so it is a fun little test bike for this project. This is the closest I will ever have to a Gen 2 Tecate so that is what drives me to do this rather silly project lol.
