    ATC250ES air filter options

What are most folks using for an air filter? I recently bought a big red that has been sitting for years. It does not have an air filter cage. I have been able to use the uni without a cage on my 250SX because there is a spring inside to support the foam. It seems that the uni that is available for the ATC250es does not have a spring and appears to be intended to be used with the OEM air filter cage and bracket. Let me know what is the preferred way to go on this. Thanks.

I have found a filter from a modern vehicle that will fit into the 250 big red airbox.
I have ordered the cage for it.
If this all fits I will get photos and part numbers posted for you guys.

I finally got around to installing this filter.
It does fit but requires trimming off the rear filter mount inside of the air box.
I hated to cut the mount out but this machine is going to be a work horse so being original is not a big deal.
It does take some effort to get the filter into the intake tube but not too bad.
See the picture with the part numbers for the cage and filter from a 20023 Honda Pioneer 520 sxs.

i have an update on this. The big red would not run perfectly with the airbox lid on.
I believe this filter setup is so much larger than the stock big red filter that it is partially blocking the airbox intake.
I am still working through this but I might end up having to use an outwears style airbox lid to get around this situation.

That's not the issue. With the airbox lid on it will not run correctly.
It runs pretty good without the lid.

But you are right if I end up not using the lid I may need to rejet.
