    Blueing

    I did this to the axle center and brake hub. Not sure yet if it will work, yet.
    Anyone else try it?

    It all started with this sleeve:


    I thought it was good so I did a little more, anyway. If you want to, lmk if it’s bad.

    Is that a cold blue, like for gun touchup, or something else?

    Yes, that’s right. It is a cold blueing liquid. Although, I heated the inner axle to get it warm. I’ll take it apart next year to see how it held up. I’ve only read that the grease will help the longevity of the blueing.

    Proper hot blueing is an oxide layer on the surface, sort of like a passivation that occurs to aluminum and titanium.

    Sealing with grease or a hard wax will definitely improve the lifetime.
