How do I adjust the timing chain?

In my Honda owners manual, it says to adjust the timing chain, just loosen a nut found on the crankcase while the engine is running, then tighten it. It will then be set. I did it but absolutely nothing has changed, my top end of the motor still ticks. Am I doing something wrong, or maybe the tensioner is passed it's prime, (doesn't work anymore)

it's likely the valves ticking. Try adjusting those!

    It isn't broke

It sound like the valve seating could be incorrect.Or worn valve springs,Or worn valves

I adjusted the valves to .002'', and it still ticks. Currently I'm taking a power mechanics course from the school (it's free!) for the next 6 months. I'll probably bring in my ATC to rebuild it, cause the shop is VERY equiped, you can fix ANYTHING! What bugged mw was that another guy in that class brought in a 200 like mine and there was absolutely no ticking whatsoever, even with your ear right against the head. I want mine to sound like that, cause I need to rely on mine when out moose hunting many miles away!

There was a thread a long time ago about that chain running noise on BigRed when they get shut off and many more people have the same thing. Its related to the starter hookups. And there is no damage or whatever occuring by this.

hondajas, The problem your having ( Ticking ) could be caused by a worn out timing chain. Once they stretch so far there is not way to adjust them.
