gday mate yes im sure you can fit a cr125 in an 85 frame.my old boy and uncle did this to 2 83 200x's back in the 80's when they raced.we have a few old videos of them racing they were in the 200x class and they left the 200x's for dead,my uncle even said sometimes he would run his in the 250 class and usually come in around 3rd to 4th position so yes it is worth doing 4sure. later mate oh yeah and on that same video its got 1 of the court cases that were held over the banning of three wheelers.its got a guy from the cpsc telling the judge how many people the trikes have injured and killed since they came out. wink
did the motor bolt in?

I can tell you that its not going to bolt in, you will need to build some motor mounts to fit. Also I think the biggest thing would be fitting the pipe in there, I am sure it would be pretty good though, I own a yt175 and personally I would just rather have a 4 stroke, It dont seem to have the power that I want.

I was going to do that transplant, but fell into other things. That would be a killer trike. Light and quick!

I am the son of the uncle that Mart is talking about.
I know this post was from a while ago but who cares, its a good topic...
I spoke to dad about it and he says that it wasnt too hard. You have to cut the whole front down tube out and remanufacture it further forward. This is to allow for the pipe. The radiator is easy, just mount it to one side. But you will definately not going to fit any off the shelf pipes to the trike without modification. The top back mount is pretty much in the right spot, just line the chain up and modify the bracket. The easiest way to line the chain up is measure from the centre of the case to the sprocket on the 200x motpr and then the same for the cr125 motor. Do the mathamatics and move the motor accordingly.
Should end up with the worlds best trike.
Good luck if you are still considering doing it.
Here's a couple pictures I found while browsing the web one day.
I would like to do this someday too. I think a nice 86 roller would be great for a newer 125 engine.

Since we are on this subject...had anybody on this forum ever put in a shelved down 250r 200cc motor or a MTX200R motor into a 200x frame trying to make a replica 200r factory racer ?also you can use this page as a reference it has a couple picture with 200x fames with 2stroke motors in them . http://www.3wheelerworld.com/race.shtml
No offence ment here but I have to laugh my butt off everytime someone says this is easy. Frame mods should only be done by people that really know what they are doing and most don't. Even mounting the radiator would be a challenge above your average wrenching skills. It may be easy to some but it's out of reach for most to do it right.Originally Posted by HaggLE

Agreed, I'm pretty handy but I'd have to think twice before I cut the frame of my bike. Best bet for someone trying this project is to get a spare frame and use that as a guina pig for the swap.No offence ment here but I have to laugh my butt off everytime someone says this is easy. Along the same lines, I wouldn't think anyone would want to use the 83-85 200x frame anyhow(without major gussets) as they were known for being weak anyhow.

Possibly but most CR conversions I've seen have been the 85 model and not the 86/87. The CR motor would be lighter and not put as much stress on the frame.

I say its easy with the assumption that you can use a welder and a grinder.
We are making trikes over here, usually from bikes but you still have to make triple clamps and swing arms etc..
The reason that dad made these trikes was because 250r's were only new and a little more pricey plus i think he had his 200x from before the r's were out.
ACTUALLY 250R'S CAME OUT IN 81 thats years before the 200x,,,i think he had his 200x from before the r's were out.![]()
