    tri z carb n air mods (differance)?

    hi befor i go n buy these parts i thought it best to ask the z pros whether it will make a big difference to preformance, n will there b any big probs i will run into? jets?

    i have a totally stock 86 z and i was going to put an
    36MM Mikuni TM Flatslide Carb and an banshee k+n air filter on it (take out the stock one)!!
    will this work ok with my stock engine? n what will the differances be? higher revs? more low/mid/high end power?
    n any other really easy mods i can do apart from a pipe that will dramatically improve proformance???

    the carb should work fine. the air filter im not sure of cause i dont know what it looks like lol. butif you can get it on there then thats a plus. if your gonna run a K&N filter behind the carb without an air box, id recommend some type of foam covering for extra protection . the jetting wont be anything radical, but i would ask a dealer in your area for help there. humidity and elevation make your jetting somewhat region specific. These mods will help your midrange and top end noticeably. it wont really rev much higher but it will rev faster with the proper jets. gl and please put up some pics of your handiwork.

    what kind of hp improvment are we talking about 5hp?
    n is there any nice cheap simple mods for improving low end power and also what can i do to make it rev faster n altamatly increase my top speed?

    its hard to say hp increase but 5-7 is a safe bet. hp is highly overrated as a bikes speed is determined by how ALL the parts work together , not just hp. proper gearing , suspension , and basic bike setup is more important than any one mod you could do. the best way to make it rev higher is a lighter piston, a lightened con rod , a lightened crank if possible, as well as an aftermarket or yz 60 ignition and flywheel. any or all of these mods will sacrifice reliability. decking the head and or a high compression pistonwill also raise your rpms. the choice is yours.

    a reed spacer will help your low end torque, let us know how the carb and everything works out, i just got a 38mm flatslide and going to buy a k&n filter, got to wait untill i get my z put back together and try it out.

    where can i get a tri z reed spacer from? and will it sacrifice mid or high end power if i install one?

    im pretty sure 88-92 YZ125 reeds and reed spacers are a direct bolt on for are TRI-Zs
    looking for a TRI-Z 250 to restore at the moment

    i herd that putting a reed spacer on a tri z will work against you because they already came from the factory with the small boost bottle that you see connected at the reed cage that is suposed to help out the low end... that is prolly why TRI-Zs are noticed the best for there low end power.. well i herd that adding a reed spacer will work against you being they already come from the factory with the small boost bottle. but you can yous the reeds that they offer for the YZ being there is more of a selection that way.

    ok thx i mailed this chap and he said that a spacer its ment to boost the low and mid range power by 3hp on the yz125!! i don't know if they have a boost bottle or not!! i see that u are running a 38mm carb!! did u need to port your z for this? and whats your air intake setup?k+n filter? plz could u post a pic!

    Nipper, the shorter the distance from the reed cage to the intake ports (intake tract length), the better the top end power will be. Lengthening the intake tract distance by installing a reed spacer will take away from the top end performance and increase the low to mid-range performance. A typical reed spacer is about 3/8" thick, so you probably won't notice any loss of top end power, but the low to mid-range gain will be substantial.

    One thing to keep in mind, if your running the stock setup (up top air filter, and back gas tank) you might not have that much clearance to run a spacer.

    YZ 125 dirt bikes do not have a boost bottle...
    but any way yes i do have a 38mm flat side on my bike and i am using a K&N air filter in the air box also a polish job...

    i am going to be doing the folowing though as soon as i get the funding:

    phase 2 yamaha wrench report mods
    clamp on air filter
    dg pipe
    dg silencer
    boysen power reeds (already have)
    38mm TMX flat side carb (already have)

    ill take pix for you guys in about an hour ill have them for u tomorow.

    so its possible to put an 38mm carb on an unported tri z? i heard that they bog down above the 36mm carb!!?
