The high dollar, aftermarket, ultra expensive, what the pros use, oils made specifically for 2 stroke motorcycle and ATV crank cases are nearly all synthetic, so I personally find the notion that they cause clutch problems silly, but some people staunchly believe this theory.

I dont generally run full synthetics in two strokes, because its over kill and a waste of money, not because because of any fear of clutch problems. This is wheer I use whatever happesn to be laying around of the appropriate weight. I like the semi synthetics like Synthec, but 10w40 Dollar General oil will do the job too, just have to change it sooner.

My dad once put Castrol GTX 20W-50 in his 86 350X. The clutches were slippin like a mother. So he got on ebay & bought plates, basket, springs, everything was brand new.One day we put them in there soaked them Castrol GTX and now those brand new plates are glazed to heck and back. We drained the oil and put honda oil in it, the clutches still slip but not as bad. My buddy put some in his 84 200es and his clutches were glazed(he sold it last month). My other buddy has a 85 350X and he put castrol GTX High Mileage in his and it started to slip, he replaced and runs havoline oil in his, but he refuses that GTX was the problem. No, none of those oils were synthetic. So i reccomend yall put some atv oil in your machines.I run honda oil in my 86 200S and never had a problem. If you buy some honda oil you can flip the bottle over and it says that you shouldnt run automobile oil in todays high performance ATVs. It says automobile oil doesnt have antigens in it to grab the clutches, and automobile oil isnt made 4 the wet clutch system or something like that! :-D 8)

Amsoil, one of the only true synthetics is one of the best. Honda oil, one of the worst. Conventional oil shears at something like 400psi and synthetics shear at something like 2000 psi. Also it appears as if Syntec and Mobil 1 aren't true synthetics. Do the research online like I did. All the info is out there. Bob

I've used Honda HP4 20w-50 in my 350x and haven't had any problem. My clutch slipped when I used Castrol 20w-50.

I just bought Pennzoil 10-40. You can buy pennzoil in 5-20, 5-30, 10-30, 10-40 and 20-50, so I can change grades of oil for different seasons without ever changing brand. 10-40 can also be bought in a 4 litre jug, comes out cheaper!

Yes i can actually, I worked for a major distributer and a few years ago the packaging changed, that is when i heard that it was actually mobil 1. i asked the rep from amsoil about it and he confirmed this to me, "rebottled" is when a manufacturer produces more than one brand based on packaging alone, such as pennzoil and quaker state(same plant/company, different bottle) it is not a bad thing, use whatever is cheaper. btw, castrol is the biggest rebottler(i know as they are near my house, and i have friends that work there) they make most of Walmarts oil...including the syntheic($9 a gallon at my local walmart!) valvoline is doing a lot too, and agip is doing napa oils currently.
