    atc 70 help!

i just got a 82 atc 70 and when its running when u hit the gas it wants to stall out it makes like a popping sound, like its running out of gas or to lean, but once revved up it runs fine , its just the first tap of the gas it wants to die unless u gun it! is it possible the coil could be doing this or if it was bad wouldnt run right at all? I checked and cleaned carb, looks good, new plug , and air filter.

sounds like you need to adjust the air screw,or replace the pilot jet with a bigger one.

Sounds like you might be running rich. Mine did the same thing till I put the jet on the top of the carb on the very top notch.

Check your point gap which is the major factor in ignition timing. As a general rule, if a machine has points, go there first.

Ive adjusted the air screw, it seems like it gets worse the richer u make it, its turned almost all the way in right now thats were it seems to run the best. any one know how far out or adjusted it should be? How to i check my points gap?
The person i got the bike from put a light, i guess u would call it, in the spark plug wire line so when the bike is running u see a light and the current going through the line ,but i believe he had to cut the wire and splice the light into it , and might of messed something up . The plug that was in it was also dead when i got it, but looked fairly new, but wasnt sparking so something must of messed the plug up, which i thought was hard to do in a 4 stroke. but when the bike is running their seems to be plenty of electricity inside that light so...... I Dunno!

the air screw on a carb is just that AIR ,,, the farther you open it up the leaner it gets ,,, which would be the oppisite of what you just said,,,, close rich open lean,,,
