The hubs from a 250x, 300ex, 200X etc. will fit a TriZ if they have just a little bit of wear. Otherwise they fit VERY tight. The 86 and up ATC/TRX 250R does NOT fit. I dont know about the 400EX, but if I had to guess, I would think they would use the same hubs as the 250R rather than the smaller ones.
The 250R hubs can be made to work on the Z axle, but you have to get creative :-) I ran mine the whole time with it setup like that.
I wouldnt advise it! It will jam on there, but its actually bigger and has one extra spline that makes it feel like its fitting tight. At least on the 86 and newer. It wouldnt surprise me if the older R's use the same spline as the 200x.Originally Posted by HondaATC
Your right, the R hub splines are larger. So what I did was take 2 arc welding rods and beat the flux off of them, and placed them inbetween the splides on the axle to make a spacer of the sorts. They came back on and off with no problems. I ran mine like this everyday for atleast a month before the motor blew. Like I said, you can do it but you gotta be creative. I'm usually not a cobber but this was a special situation
Heres a couple pictures from when it was running

They don't fit. When I had my 01 400ex I tried to put the hubs on my 86z and they were to small. They are the same # of splines, but cut differint. And the 400ex is 24 spline and 250 r is 25.
Well the 400EX hubs are the same as the 250X, 300EX, and 86-87 200X. I don't knwo why yours would be different YTZ? Maybe like TimSR said...do yours have any wear?

The splines were like new on the hubs and the axle. The honda hubs are cut a little differnt then the Yamaha, and if you can put them on then the splines are shot on one or the other. If that's the case why bother, feel free to use a bigon yours but I'll buy the right hubs for mine.Dura blue makes a set of yamaha hubs with honda bolt pattern,If stock honda hubs fit rite they woulden't bother making them.
My Quad-Z had a like-new axle and I had to heat the hubs, and tap them on with a. Admittedly, Im not looking forward to having to remove one to channge carrier bearings.
My Tri-Z has an axle thats been around a while, and good TriZ hubs will wiggle a little bit, but 250X hubs fit teh way they should, norequired.
They dont have to be totally shot or totally worn out to fit. When hubs are new, you put them on, and they have no wiggle at all, but after a couple years of normal use, 250X hubs will have enough wear to fit right on the Z, and if you have an older axle, used hubs are a lot cheaper than a new axle.
