... just make sure you change your sprockets along with that new chain or else it will turn to a "used" chain VERY quickly. Go with a good O or X ring chain too.

Hey check out http://www.rockymountainatv.com/home.asp?sid=0004414297 . They have a chain deal that is around 55$ and it comes with both sprockets too. I bought that for my 83 R. Its probably not the top of the line stuff but it works for me...........peace

wicked finger, can you change sprockets with out changing the chain or will that mess things up as well?
You need to change chain and sprockets together. If you only change one, it will wear the other very quickly.
Trikes: Cagiva 200, 85? Tiger 250,(2)84 200x's , (3)86 200x's, 87 200x, (5)85 350x's, (2)86 350x's, (2)85 250r's, 86 Tecate, (3) 85 250sx's Restoring: 83 200x, 86 250sx. Too many utility trikes to list.
Im not sure if Im agreeing or disagreeing. Putting a new chain or worn sprockets or a worn chain on new sprockets will greatly speed up wear of the new component. This does not mean all componenets must be replaced at the same time though. They wear at different rates. Your steel rear sprocket will last longer than 3 or 4 front sprockets. Your aluminum rear will probably outlast two fronts. You can wear out two or three standard chains before wearing out one front sprocket. O-Ring/X-Ring chains usually outlast a front sprocket for me. The smaller the front sprocket, the faster it wears out compared to the other components. This is basic mechaincs. Turn your wheel once and count how many times the chain is fed though your front, and then your rear and its not hard to figure out why the front wears faster.
Whenever you replace anything in the chain drive, check the other two componets. Dont leave a bad component in the circuit, but dont waste your money replacing good components either.
I do agree with Tim. But for the price for an average kit is around 50-60$ then I would say its worth changing them out everytime you need to change any of the 3 coponents. But I do understand some dont have the cash flow to spend that much too.
