The Rest of the Sporty Big Red

I know these pictures are really crappy, but it's the best I can do for right now. Here she is in all her pride and glory....Also, my clutch was slipping, so last night a buddy and I replaced the centrifugal clutch with new OEM parts. It still slips - any suggestions as to why???? What is causing this??? Will replacing the secondary clutch (behind it) help??? I sure wouldn't think so, so let me know your thoughts.

I think your problem is now with your main clutch (manual Clutch). Does it grab right off the bat then start slipping? I would replace the fiber disks and the springs and you will be good. I believe there are measurements to see if they are worn out. Have you inspected the 'one way clutch'? I know that these can get worn and cause problems. Keep us posted. Your BIGRED looks real nice!

The big red doesn't have a manual clutch, btw, but it could be the other clutch that is activated while you shift.

hey man that trike looks awsome, sorta wish I kept my 250 big red now, just wanted to give you the heads up, with those smaller back tires you will tend to over rev the engine, and probaly due some damage, i remeber someone said the broke a connecting rod, or just a rod bearing because of that, trike looks great though

Why would I let my engine over-rev and cause damage?? I know it revs faster, but that just means I have to shift faster - with a lower top speed in each gear respectivley. Putting smaller tires on a Big Red is no different from putting smaller tires on any other trike or quad or bike for that matter. All three of my trikes have smaller than stock rear tires (86 Big Red with 22" in stead of 25" stock and 83 ATC200 with 20" intead of 25") I never caused any damage. Not sure where you get this opinion from. When the engine gets to a certain RPM you shift, you don't shift when you get to a certain speed.

Your trike looks great and as far is the cltuch slipping is concenred sounds like you need to replace your friction & clutch plates in the secondary clutch. The centrifugal cltuches hardly ever go bad.

Looks like a 200X front end to me. Looks great!

Yes, 250R is correct, that is a 200X front end. It handles so well with that narrow front tire. That trike is a real gentleman in the woods on trails. One upgrade I want in the future is a 350X headlight. I love the looks of the dually. Another note - it has no sterring stops, so it turns super tight. For those of you wondering and questioning that - It has a plastic tank so minimal damage will be done when the forks hit it, also, rarely when riding do you turn the wheel the whole way in. If at all, it's just when riding in the woods on tight trails going real slow.

back to the reving it to much, i didn;t mean through all the gears i ment like going down the road having in pinned, i honestly cant remeber if i read it on here, or someone told me in person, but because of the smaller tires they tended to use top speed alot since it was even slower then with the 25s, you might not have any troubles, just wanted to post that

say doing 55 at 1/2 throttle with the 25's
but then doing 55 at full with the 22's
not the motor is reving alot more, and which then caused rod bearing damage

did you soak your plates before you put them in?

No, after installing the "arms" I started it up and let them dip in the oil bath for a while, then shut it down for a while to let the oil soak in (about an hour).

I'll replace the disc clutch now - by the sounds of things in this post, it will fix my problem.
