    350x cutting out

i've got an 85 350x bored over .020 with a 400ex head pipe and cobra pipe, 400ex carb with carb boot and head ported to match, the exaust gasket matched to head pipe. i am running a 190 main jet with the airbox lid on, the plug is lightish brown. when i am in sixth gear wide open the motor loses power like it is hitting the revlimiter, but i can pull the clutch in without litting off of the throttle and it will rev higher and then hit the rev limiter.

any suggestions as to why this is happening.

sounds like the engine cant pull sixth gear wide open. IE, not enough HP. Sounds like my 200X in 6th full blast up a long, gradual hill. It aint got the nuts to pull sixth redlined up that hill, or most anywhere else for that matter. lower your gearing???

Hmm....thats the first I have heard of a 350x having a rev limiter
But to answer your question...I would try some 20"tires, and run a 14/36 gearing with them mods...sounds like you are into WOT. If so...try what I said

i have tried 20x10x8 sand tires and i could almost effortlessly bury them up to the rims on a hard launch. not to say that they don't work for others, but for me, they are too small. and yes it does have a "rev limiter" sounds kind of like a 400ex with a stock rev box.

it could have a 250x cdi box, they fit on and work. for the 250x-350x conversion you use the 350x cdi and 250x wiring, so I don't see why it wouldn't work opposite. I always thought the 350x cdi didn't have a rev limit too.

I am not sure on the rev limiter either, but on my one that has the aftermarket electrical, i swear it revs higher than the other, but i do find that in 5 gear she will rev higher then 6th, and all of mine have 22s on them

well i can't say for sure what type of rev box it is when i got the bike it was just a frame and a box of parts, does anyone have a number i can reference for the rev box??? i know for sure it does have a rev limiter cause when racing i have launched at full throttle and it sounds like my 400 did with the stock box and also for reference the 400ex stock box will not work on the x. found out the hard way, it'll start but won't rev

    400EX Headpipe!?!?!?!

Did the 400EX Headpipe bolt right on? Does it line up pretty good and also does it match up in the back? Thanks.

It takes a little fine tuning to line up with the head and the motor has to be unbolted and tilted to the side to install or remove it and the rear brake fluid resivoir needs to be removed. the cobra pipe i have came with a "S" bend seprate from the pipe. the muffler it's self fits on the headpipe and has a small angle out to the right when bolted up, aprox 10-15*
