    350X Clutch Repair....

    OK.... Couple questions here.....

    A. ) I have never opened an engine, but have a repair manual. Should I attempt to do this myself with Haspin sitting just around the corner??? Service garage said would be ~$60 plus parts.

B.) What clutch kits do you recommend? Brands and service levels. Springs? Bearings? etc....

While the engine is open, I plan switching the side cover back to a 86, so the clutch cable can be routed away from my headers and also replacing the internal parts of my decompression cable as it isn't picking up right on the kickstarter.

Hahah personally I think 60 dollars sounds cheap, if they're a reliable shop I'd probably just pay them for that price.

It's an easy job but like Goku said, you cant beat $60 to have someone else do it. Whoever does it, make sure while they are in there they clean out the oil pump pickup screen(you can only get to it with that cover off).

    Lots O Trikes!!!!!

Replacing the Clutch is not that hard to do. I am sure you can do it yourself and save the $60. If you still have my number I can help walk you through it. It should only take you a hour or so. If you wait and bring it and the parts needed to Haspin I will fix it for you at NO Charge!!!

As far as Clutches & springs go, I run Veserah or Honda. I have never had a problem with these brands.

Things you will most likely need are:
    Clutch plates
    Clutch Springs
    Clutch Cover Gasket

Im going to suggest the Honda clutch, and discourage the Vesrah clutch. My 250R was a clutch eater before I replaced the basket, but Vesrah clutches lasted a fraction of the Honda clutches, and the metal tabs on the Vesrah fiber plates notched really bad.

Thank you all for the advice. That's great Howdy... sounds like a plan!!! This is also the 350X that was making the wierd noises the first time I'd engage the clutch after I started it. What do you think that would be?? :Evil I'll bring the '86 side cover (we'll just use the clutch lever), and those compression release parts I got from Freaksfix. You need any parts for that Yamahauler???? I got a crap load of them in a parts lot I bought.

I'll talk to Holic and see if there will be room for both of my 350X's then. I don't really trust that shop too much.... they are the ones that put the compression release cam in 180º off, so it wouldn't start, then told me it was an electrical problem!!!

    Thanks!

Thanks for the advice 200Xman! Definitely something I wouldn't have thought of doing....

Well.... I was irritating myself working on the Yamaha's tonight, and noticed that old burnt up clutch cable that was on my 350X when I bought it..... It was a brand new '86 cable, ran up like a 85 by the headers. I replaced it with a 85 cable (metal spring around it to keep from burning). The 85 cable was used..... anyhow, I saw the 86 cable, and the adjustment setting showed a lot of use (adjustment) left in it.

Do you think that the used cable might be stretched? AND it got worse when that side of the handlebars got all trashed in the creek? Should I try putting that old cable on and testing it??? Do you think I damaged the clutch by driving it home 'slipping' some? Once I noticed it slipping, I didn't 'gas' it hard and other than test drive it while trying to adjust it, I haven't ridden it.
