They are doing a ATV segment / report. As in most of the CBS reports they are always slamming the ATV industry. We shall see if they do it again.
If I can I will be recording it for future refference.

I wont be able to watch it. I will be at a town meeting w/GMAN and others trying to get a new MX track(practice only) and some trails opened up a few miles from my house.
It wasn't bad at all, all it basically said is kids need to stay off adult size atv's, don't ride double and that the manufctures are trying very hard to prevent death and injuries. they even showed a trike in the 2 minute clip. but also more tommorrow, so we aren't out of the water yet. no where near as bad as the ozzy one.
it's not up to the companies to eleimant deaths and injuries, it's up to the riders
I saw it....every time I see one of those stupid things....it just makes me want to kill everyone against ATV's.
It showed pictures of 4-5 year old boys and girls riding 300-600cc machines through mud holes (the girl had no helmet on) and they showed 2 little kids riding a Scrambler.
There will be another follow-up story tomorrow night, they said.
It just makes me mad that the media only shows the NEGATIVE side of everything....and nothing about the positive. They said that death rates on ATV's have risen 100% since 1993.....But did they mention that ATV sales are up 350% since then... NO!

I watched and recorded the segment. They showed how a 10 year old was killed on a 500lb atv. They also showed video of a few other kids that were riding machines that were way too big for them. Ignorance at it's finest here.
I really feel sorry that a kid was killed. The comment was made ( by the parents ) that the manufactures / dealer didn't let them know that this machine was too big for their son. WTF??
How big was the machine compared to the young boy? Common sense should tell anyone that the boy was too small for it. I firmly believe it is the parents fault because they are the ones that allowed him to ride the machine in the first place.
Your right it wasn't really all that bad. How ever every time they do a segment like this it hurts the sport as a whole. Little by little they are chipping away at whole industry.Originally Posted by deathman53
Look at it another way: When you save up to Buy a 3 wheeler. Do you get the money all at once? Or do you save a little here and save a little there? Then when you get enough you buy the machine. The same basic thing happens every time they do one of these segments. They chip away a little here and then a little there. As soon as they have chipped away enough they then go back and use all of it to push their agenda. This is basically what happened back in the day that got Trike production stopped.
If we want to keep our and future generations ability to Ride ATV's then we must work 2 times as hard to show ATV's can be safe. This includes teaching kids & adults what is too much machine for them, and the proper riding attire ( Helmet, gloves, ect ). If we do any less we are only hurting our self and all future generations.
My 11 year old watched this segment with me. He has been after me to get him a much bigger machine. When he seen that a 500lb machine could kill a 10 year old he sorta woke up. I had told him a few weeks ago that he was too small for the one machine he wanted to ride. After this segment on CBS, I explained to him that reason like this is why I will not let him ride some of the machines by himself. He now understands I do care and that I am only trying to protect him.

well good to see your boy understands
Yes it is!! I really thing he has more commen sense than these ignorant reporters.Originally Posted by thehickfarmer

when was it on? I saw the beginnning of world news tonight and didn't see anything about atv's
I saw the second part tonight. There were lots of Honda shots X's and R's Even one wheelie shot. From what I gathered, they said more about the dealers ignoring the warning labels on big machines and selling them to people for there small kids, saying they are not to big, etc. They mentioned the 1987 voluntary act to where the agreed to stop producing 3 wheeled vehicles and only produce 4 or something like that. In my opinion, it seemed to almost make you think that, if the problem is people riding machines that they cannot control and are to big for them, than that could have been the problem in the 80's with 3 wheelersBy the way everytime they showed a 3wheeler the rider was getting down having a blast as too where every time they showed a quad it was big and had a little kid on it, but they did show a 250r with a kid on the back.I am sure Howdy knows more because he taped it and I only saw it once.
