faster because if the power/weight ratio, turns on a dime, accelerates like a rocket, wheelies easy, and there just fun....one less tire to buy come tire time
    cheaper than quads...
    Wanna race? ;-)
85' Tecate (still looking for entire front brake asembly...)
    bonanza mini-bike
if you cant ride with the big boys...put it back on the trailer

The best way I can think of that gets people to appreciate trikes is when they buy the latest new gofaster quad like the yamy yfz450 for $7000. Then at the dunes, they race all comers. When the stock 85/86 250R trike stays with them and sometimes beat them, the new quad owner doesn't feel so cool anymore.

And to rub it in, if the new $7000 quad owner were to ask, "How much ya got in that thing?" The humble trike rider usually states, "About a grand."

And to "kick-um while theyre down". If que'd, "What mods did ya do to that thing?" The normal reluctant response is, "Its stock."

Yeh Warrior a good question, the smaller ones can be a load of fun and the bigger ones are a blast when you are hooking up in the dunes, but like any thing they can be lethal thing in the wrong inexperienced hands. I have a collection of Atc and a 03 Warrior, I would have to say the Warrior is the easiest to jump on and go fast, it is so forgiving in the suspension and the power band is nice etc.., but what do I like riding the most? My old THE PIG 250es, and what do I want to get next? A 81 air cooled 250 R ( just love collecting). So for me it is the chase of tracking down something that's hard to get, respecting something you cant just jump on and go fast, and putting it back in the faces of the people who told the world" THESE ARE DANGEROUS MACHINES " you will stop using them at once! ----------YEH RIGHT!------- Hope this helps you understanding us lost 3 wheeler souls. Regards Fester

lol whatever,,,, there is alot more to riding than drag racing ,,, and when you are out there with a fouled plug ,,,,hmmmm who is wizzzing by laughing,,,,

AND you say a $7000 quad,,, how much do you think a 2004 ATC 250R would cost ??????your trike is 18 years old,,, thats why it is cheap,,, we could go into this 2 stroke vs 4 stroke battle all day ,,, but i see no reason , they are not the same ,,if you put a 2004 cr 250 in a quad it would smoke your old trike too,,,

Back to FMF Warrior's original question, we are devoted to trikes for a number of reasons. I can only speak for myself, so here are my reasons:

    1. I feel like in some small way I'm getting back at the CPSC by keeping trikes alive. They made my vehicle of choice "unavailable" so I'm doing all I can to keep the old ones around alive and well.

    2. Similar to #1, but I like them for old times sake. I'm 35 years old and grew up with trikes. They were a big part of my youth and they help me connect with the past in some small way. I'm always amazed when on the trails somebody will stop me to say "man, I used to have one just like that..." which is a really cool feeling.

    3. I've ridden many new quads (Raptor, DS 650, EX 400, etc.) and they are wonderful, but I like the way my trike handles. The quads (even the Raptor) feel "too big" in comparison.

    4. I too like collecting and restoring them and "hunting" for parts. The same reasons as some guys like old cars.

Again, these are my reasons and you've heard some other from the rest of the guys. I hope that helps!

I just like them better. I dont think quads are much fun to ride, the way they "feel". Some are fast, thats for sure, I was riding a Cannondale the other day and it was really fast, super nice motor, quick turning, etc. but it just didnt feel "fun" to be on it. I dunno, same with s #4 too., well, and #1 as well!

I like being different. Quads are all over the place and when I go riding, I almost never see another threewheeler maybe I'll see one other threewheeler. Another thing is everone I ride with is scared of them so nobody is saying "My bike is broke can I ride one of yours?". But I always do ask if they want to ride one of my extras and the answer is always no thanks.

This is a good question if people stick with the original post instead of getting into a quad bashing session.

    1. I want one because CPSC says I shouldnt have one. I dont like authority limiting my choices "for my own good".
    2. Im a history buff, and these are a significant piece of ATV history.
    3. I love the attention they draw, and I love the respect and attention I get from non-trikers for having mastered one, especially in public events. What can I say? Im a ham.
    4. The feeling of personal accomplishment and achievement by being successful after choosing the more difficult method of tackling challenges.
    5. Its tough to find rides that test my abilities on a quad any more.
    6. I only regret the things I never tried. If you like offroad riding, learn to ride everything you can get your hands on so you can have an intelligent overview of all aspects of offroad riding to ensure mutual respect between differnet types of machines and the common goal of an offroad future for all.

    wow

TimSr--that has to be the best stated response the question so far.
My reason for liking my 3-wheeler is that is what I grew up with. I also like quads, but the ATC has that nastolgia value.
84 ATC200X--Wife rode it once, now I can't get it back.
84 ATC250R--Trying to find piston for 300R kit.
85 ATC350X--Project finally under way, slow progress. For pics: http://groups.msn.com/ATCfriends/350xproject.msnw
84 ATC200S--Freebie from a neighbor, needs topend rebuild and tires.

i like my 85 200x because it is much faster then an lt230, a king quad, a trx300, and a big bear, and it goes threw stuff that them big 4x4's cant go threw. my buddies were shocked that my 200x mad it right threw this muddy hole and up a hill. while the big bear had to pull the king quad and the trx300 out. they were just so shocked. i loved it. and they couldnt believe that is is almost 20 years old and stock. well except for shocks and air filter. thats just y i like my trike. o and they are alot easier to work on. to get the rear fender off u just got to push the lever. not like on the king quad that thig would take forever to get the rear fender off. thhe only thing i dont like is the kick start and no reverse. thats y i like my trike.

Why threewheelers? That is a good question... Why does one prefer this and another prefer that? If we all liked the exact same thing I think it would get quite boring... I prefer 3 over 4 because I grew up on 3wheelers. Started out on a ATC 70 when I was three and progressed up to a 200X, then 350X, and then a 250R. I feel more comfortable on 3 rather than 4. But that does not mean one is better than the other...
Here's a good reason--------I can see where I am going better on a 3 wheeler when riding wheelies LOL...

I like trikes because at first it was a challange(at times they still are a challange) to ride(I grew bored of my quad and needed something different. I also like the strange looks I get when I pass the wise ass on his quad(usually the one taking all the smack about how ancient, unsafe, unstable, etc trikes are) on the track. And even though I can occasionally hang with the new race quads, but for the most part get passed by them, I get alot of respect from them. The normal riders with normal bikes( long travel suspension isn't what I call a normal bike) I usaully can hang with and pass about half. I love the looks when I do big jumps, rythum sections, etc. Also the best part NOBODY wants to ride your bike. I had a racer tell me, "you wouldn't get me on that if it was to ride that or walk home 20 miles, between the trike and that 330 motor you got, I'd kill myself before I got home". sometimes I get "my dad used to have one of those", but most are stuff like "your crazy". they are easy to work on, last forever and usually start up easily. It realy seams like the old bikes were built tougher, hence probably the toughest bike a 250es big red, those things are industructable. I took one of those threw a swamp that one of those big 4x4's couldn't go threw and had to pull him out, just put it in low range and go. Went through some nasty stuff on my atc250r(when it wasn't full motocross) that a raptor and 400ex got stuck. True trikes aren't the easiest to jump but when you do jumps like this you get alot of respect. Where I ride half the quad guys don't jump near that well. Its a really good feeling to be riding something that is 20 yrs old and keeps up with the vast majority of quads and cost 1/4 of its counterparts.

Because its all Ive ever rode. Ive tried 2 wheels, and 4 wheels, but keep coming back to 3 wheelers.
And I love sandroosters point. Nothing I love more, then watching a 18 or 19 year old trike, stomp a 7000 piece of shiney crap.
