    Haspin as Mecca?

oh no here he goes again...right?

listen to me and chew on this bit of cud for awhile

we can all agree that 3ww is the biggest sight on the internet for 3wheeler enthusiasts. I unerstand how difficult it is to organize something like a Trikefest and I am extremly proud and respect all those who attended.

3ww.com's biggest organized ride has the biggest turnout.........

    BUT.......

the facility at haspin is not the place...it's over and you need to seriously consider moving on and growing

and whats funny is that you continue to stay in your comfort zone like a bunch of old betty's...already planning to go there AGAIN next year.....while annointing each other with official Knighthoods

i'm begining to smell stagnation and it STINKS

    WAKE UP ...

You dont even consider another spot....sad

to most of you haspin probably is the best you've ever seen....but theres a whole world out there.... a 3wheeler world....

go someplace where you'll be notice
go someplace where you can attract THOUSANDS
go someplace where you can challenge the best ATV/ATC's
go someplace that allows riding after 9pm...hehe (old man hours)
go someplace where you can push you 3wheeler to the limit
go someplace with THE BEST RIDING Grounds
an event this special needs an special place

it like scheduling a convention at IHOP instead of the Hilton

last year,Haspin was a mudhole...this year it was a Gnatfest

    look to the future..
cant anyone see that haspin has it's limits?
or do you really think it's the best place?

I'm afraid that keeping it as your little baby, sheltered and restricted everyone will watch it rot, sour and run away from you when it's about to come of age...

if you think it's bearing fruit now your wrong...it's barely taking root, dont plant it permenately in a mudhole, oblivious to the rest of the ATV world

now don't take me wrong, Haspin has served you well, but in order to eventually take the next step shouldn't you look beyond HASPIN

you know there is alot of BLM recreation facilities waiting to be explored...
    and remember....
it's public land, our land, use it, support it or lose it

NAW,,,,lets go back to haspin AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN.....until the dinosaurs die off.....

    one 3wheeler enthusiasts opinion

Note to waterpumper...the saying goes, "it's always the first or last ride that gets ya!"...sorry to hear you crashed.

wait, wait, you havent ever even gone have you?, i know i havent, was suppose to this year but my ride stood me up, i dont understand how you have a right to say any of this if you have never even attended? i dont see the problem with it being at the same spot, according to everyone that goes, each year more and more people attend, if you kept moving it around i bet it would interfere with alot of people and they wouldnt be able to attend, theres people that drive hours upon hours to get there, and they have done it for years in a row, but you dont see them getting all piss pants about it being so far away, i've never heard them complain, only talk about how much fun it was, and how it was more then worth it, i dont know how many people feel the same, but i for one think it would suck to stay a weekend at a over crouded park, the way people talk about haspin, its a nice calm enviroment and noone really bugs you, i know you ride mostly dunes, so is that your idea of a great ride spot? and how exactly is going to the same spot once a year causing "the dinosaurs to die off"?
Give me no lip and I tell you no lie.

I drove about 15 hours to get there and would do it again. If the drive was ore than 1 day I would say forget it. As for the gnatfest remark, I didn't see 1 gnat only some cicadas. There's nothing stopping YOU form getting together your own Trikefest out west. Put up or shut up. Since you have never been to Haspin you wouldn't understand the respect and appreciation that the park shows to us.

    Lots O Trikes!!!!!

    Mymint, your jealousy is showing.

Seriously tho it is nicely located for those on the east coast. There are other spots, but those spot will always be to far for someone...Why take away a good thing? Plus from what I have seen it has lots of different riding types except sand. But then sand isnt everything. One day I hope to make this. Not likely, but one can hope.

Oh and not to brag, but our ride, no trikefest at that is at 94 confirmed riders, and we have not one CALI rider coming. WHat is up with that?

Oh were would you like it? In your back yard. I drove over 800 miles. With two miss turns it came to 1,025. Yes it can get muddy, yes it can be hot. And yes the dust sucked. I’m still coughing it up. I did not go there for the riding. I went to meet the people I could only chat with. And they were a great bunch to party with. And I will do it again next year. I don’t care if it’s raining, smoken hot, or if hell is freezing over. I will go to hang with my new friends. What are your excuses?

I did not get to go, but I won't sit here and rant like a child because it was not in my backyard. The whining attitude because it was not held where someone would prefer is just childish. Grow Up.

I think mint has a point, and the point is it MAY be a good idea to mabey do a few different spots here and there, possibly 2 trikefests per year? mabey 3? Haspin (centrally located for alot of people-it is basically in the middle of the country) one farther east, like paragon or rocky roost, and one farther west like OK or something?? Badlands, silverlake, etc, all these are places I would like to visit. I didnt take it as whining, but resting on our laurels, mabey. I like Haspin, and sure, the people are great to us. BTW, after I lost my azz on the MX track, a bird ed on me, and a cicada attacked me, but I still would go back to Haspin!

If you think its about the best riding area, youve missed the whole point. Yes, I too have much better riding, that is much closer to my home. Fact is about half the guys who come arent even real avid riders, just guys who build them, collect them, or just like to admire them, and would be just as happy meeting in a field somewhere. For half of them its a social event, and they never ride beyond camp to camp. Its about finally meeting old friends, and thats not an oxymoron. A lot of these guys no longer even have trikes, and most would come back, even if they had nothing to ride. Haspin has some really good riding, but more importantly, its setup to accomodate a large group gatherings.
Trikefest is organized by a guy who lives in western Ohio. Of course he picks a location within a couple hours of his home,(as my nine year old says, "DUH") that can accomodate whatever numbers we bring, and that treat us well.
I fully agree with you that we need more of these somewhere else. We need people willing to find places and organize them in their areas instead of sitting around whining and expecting Howdy to organize one for you that he wont be able to attend. He and 3WW have promoted other events, and given tips and suggestions on organizing them. If you would like to organize one in your area, I fully support you. and this site will fully support you.
Its extremely unrealistic of you to think you can possibly move this event. Its the people who ARE the event, and fact is its very doubtful any more than a couple of them will ever attend a west coast event. Not because they are mean, or nasty, but simply for the same reason youll never attend one in Haspin. Its just not practical. Basically, your asking that Howdy find a location in your area, and move this event there, where he cant attend, and maybe one or two guys from the previous year might be able to attend, even though the Haspin event continues to grow each year. Wouldnt it make more sense to create new events in other areas instead of trying to move this one?
So, go for it, and create a west coast gathering! Dont whine and expect Howdy to do it for you. We will support your efforts. We dont have a lot of west coast riders on this site, but there are some. Im sure theyd love a west coast gathering. Ill bet Jenn would be happy to help. I think .org has even more west coast riders. Youve got to think starting small, and building on it, and not expect a huge turnout the first time out. Howdy's first event brought like 12 people. Its actually "the staying in one place" and making it a regularly scheduled event that builds attendance, and not moving it a around where the prior years attendees cant make it.
Let us know what you come up with so we can promote it. Let us know if you need any advice on how to organize it. Same goes for anyone else in any other part of the world!

I thought this was all in the past. I guess I was wrong.
How can you knock Holding Trikefest @ Haspin if you have never been there? I have never been to Glamis but you don't see me knocking it do you? I am totally confused on how anyone can complain about something without having first hand knowledge of it.

What I really feel is the underlining problem here is the lack of such a event close to you. I think it was said best here:

    .

Since your so dead set against having Trikefest @ Haspin Acres then I say start something near you. All the whining, crying, bitching , and moaning will not stop us from Getting together at Haspin Acres.

A little Trikefest history and information:
1st Gathering: North Carolina 11 People
2nd Gathering: Haspin Acres 35+ People
3rd Gathering: Haspin Acres 45+ People
4th Gathering Haspin Acres 64 People signed in and there was a lot that didn't.

It seems that since holding Trikefest at Haspin Acres the attendance has steadily ( rapidly ) increased ( show above ). This says a lot!!
Sure it can be said that Haspin is Too far away for some people. How ever Hagen has come to Trikefest @ Haspin Acres for the past 2 years. Hagen lives well over 4000 miles away. If holding Trikefest at Haspin Acres was bad would he have come 2 times? If it was as bad as you make it out to be, would he already be planning for next years trip?

"Dad's" lives about 15 1/2 hours away ( 800+ miles ). He came this year and said he was coming back next year. This is even after he made a wrong turn that cost him a extra 2 hours of driving time.
HondaATC, lives 750 or so miles away. He came this year and said he would be coming back next year.

If Haspin Acres is as bad your trying to make it out to be then why is the attendance growing so rapidly year after year? Why are people coming from farther and farther away to be here?

    Some things that were mentioned:
Yes, we had lots of rain last and the mud that comes with it.
Yes, we had lots of cicada's this year. This only happens once every 17 years ( no worries about this again until 2021 ).
We do have changing weather here, some times it rains at Haspin Acres, other times it don't. If you think about it this actually adds to the surprise of Haspin. It makes you be a little more prepared for the unexpected. This ensures that every year it's not the same. If you don't like riding in mud you can just socialize during the rainy / muddy times. For the people that like mud Haspin Acres has Mud holes even during the Dry times. There is always something to do at Haspin Acres rain or shine.

I also want to add that Pete, Flow, and all the others from the Haspin Acres crew have done nothing but treat us with respect. They have bent over backwards to keep us coming back. To date I don't know of any other place that has such a warm welcoming crew. They are the Best!!!

I think I can speak for everyone that has went to Trikefest @ Haspin Acres that it is one hell of a good time. In fact I have never heard so many people tell me they can't wait for TF05.

Moving Trikefest to another location? We will let the Trikefest Attendee's decide that. Being as every year the attendance keeps getting better this tells me that the location is working out for more and more people. We even had one guy come to Trikefest that isn't on the internet ( He said he totally hates computers ). He heard about it from a friend. He was so impressed that he ask me to send him information on the next gathering. He doesn't want to miss it. This says a lot.

I do have a suggestion in organizing a new event, which would be to hold it on the same weekend as Trikefest in Haspin. I think a lot more people who are bummed out about not being able to go to Haspin would be motivated to show up at a ride local to them. I know I would. In a name discussion you once made reference to "Octoberfest". Perhaps we should declare the annual Trikefest weekend a "holiday" rather than an event, for trikers to gather for rides at whatever location they may be. Of course many of us will continue to look forward to gathering at Haspin.

I have no problems going back to Haspin Acres for TF as long as Howdy chooses to have it there. I don't exactly think it's the best suited place for Trail riding, but the fact that it has an MX track (that they let us close down to race only Trikes on) and a Dragstrip, and it's privately owned (so anyone consuming Adult Beverages isn't getting booted) has quite an appeal. I personally have never been to any other place that offered that much variety. The only issue I had all weekend was getting caught in the middle of a Harescramble and not being able to get back out. I thought that course should have been roped off somehow. That was just Dangerous.

Its not getting stagnant, by anymeans. This year was the first year there was an organized Motocross and Drag race with several dozen spectators at each. This is promoting threewheelers, Stopping back in the trails and helping some guy on a TRX450R pull his quad out of the mud is promoting threewheelers. Having the owners of Haspin tell you that we are the best group they have, and that they love it when we come is promoting threewheelers. Climbing the devils backbone on a trike with 35-40 people watching is promoting threewheelers.

I loved the MX race alot, a whole lot. I'm going to see about maybe getting into some of the quad MX's locally a little harder now. I will also see about organizing an event locally to hold me over until next years Trikefest at Haspin Acres.

Mike, its like you were saying on the phone. The westcoast has the trikes, but no enthusiasm. The Eastcoast has no trikes and all the enthusiasm. Your a west coaster, get them dudes motivated!

i have been lucky enough to have a good friend get me started in trikefest. i have read about it on the board but never really put much thought into going. but last year 200xman ask me if i wanted to go. when we decide something together it is a done deal. we took his truck and my trailer last year. all he had was a 200x. i brought three trikes and one quad. anyway he did the majority of the driving ( we travel 775 miles) but we split the other cost. since then we have gone to a couple of other spots. we both are married and are trying places we can bring the wives. so after last year he went out of his way to purchase an 8 1/2 x 20 foot trailer,an SUV to fit us comfortably. so now we will contunue to be at trikefest and when time fits our schedule we will travel to other places. trikefest at haspin is what has started it all. as the event gets bigger i am sure the place may change. but why change a good thing. i felt right at home this year. see everyone from last year it was like the next weekend of drinking lol. even though it was a year it did not feel like that. telling stories at our camp. it was great. i dont really know what my point was but i do know if i could go to every gathering i would. i love to ride, meeting new people, putting faces with names, and lasty drinkin with the guys and a few girls lets not argue just enjoy the fact we can get together and have a good time.

    like i told Bill X R

trikefest is like a family reuinion, only better because your not related!!!!
