They didn't. This head turns it into one though. I would guess that you replace your air cooled head with that thing.

Dunno. I am curious as to how it works. I would be guessing not very well, but I could be wrong.

I wonder how it cycles the fluid? Do you need a pump, or does it work off the engines compression?

Those conversions use the thermo-siphon principle. The hot water in the head will rise through the one hose to the rad, be cooled, and then return to the head via the return hose.

Oh, so its convection. I wonder if that is effective enough though?? Some of the small r/c engines use a tad bit of engine vaccum to cycle the water... Its pretty cool.

i've had that same head before, selvys company made it first, then a bunch of "copycats" started, i got it on ebay for like 30 bucks, threw it on my old 84 with a cr80 radiator, it helped a bit, but i ended up selling it on ebay for like $140 when i sold my 84R, if you do a search on the forums, you may find the topic i had on it, or maybe it got deleted because its so old, howdy probly remembers it, he helped me a bit with it.
Give me no lip and I tell you no lie.
