Ive got an old Yamaha Warrior, that I think is one of the early models. The plastic is red. SN# is JY41UY000HC022869 . I believe the H is the year indicater, but I cant seem to find a chart showing what year that would be.

are the headlight round or square? the early 87-90 i think had the square. does it have a back up pull starter? again the early ones had these. yamaha got cheap and made them avaliable as aftermarket lol bastards!!!!!
This one had no headlights, and it does have the pull starter. I was sure it was an older generation model, just not exactly sure which one. I called Yamaha cust. service line and they told me it was an 87.
87-88 was the only two years for the recoil rope

Does any one have chart that Timsr was talking about for the warriors, my son and my self are interested in the frame numbers and how to decode them but like Tim we have had no luck with any info..............![]()
http://www.ianfuller.com/VIN/USVINRegulations.htm This I believe went into effect in 1981. Earlier years I have no clue how to identify. Here is another link. http://www.vsource.org/VFR-RVF_files/BVINs.htm It is to Honda Identifier, however the way the vin is identified should be the same. I gave the link because its explainations are easy read, and an excellent resourse. This is for US only I am unsure how other countries did theirs, if they are indeed different.

That is teh only years I have. Seems to me there is no rhyme or reason on how the serial number reads.

If that is the VIN number from the frame and the H is the tenth Digit it is indeed a 1987 model. You said that you dont have a year model chart, well here is how you remember it. 79 begins with Z, then its starts back over with A in 1980 and ends with Y in the year 2000. After 2000 they became a number to indicate that year like the tenth digit for a 2004 model is 4. Hope this helps a little
