MX at Smith Road Raceway, Medina, Ohio July 4

Ive run this track for many years, and they have always welcomed trikes, though mine seem to be the only one there over the last 3 years. This is an old school track, big and spread out without all the high flying spectater jumps, but with natural hills. This is also unsactioned so it doesnt attract a lot of "professional" amateur racers. ATV Practice starts at 8:00am.

Tunred out to be great race day, and the trikes made an honorable showing. A guy I originally met at this track several years ago decided to show up with his ATC250R for the first time in two years, and he is now old enough to race the Senior class with me, so I finally had some competition. He is by far the best trike motocrosser I have ever seen. The first moto, track was somewhat dry, and he got 6th place, and I finsihed 7th right behind him out of nine. As we celebrated not getting last, or even 2nd to the last, we both talked about how nice it would be for us if we got a little rain, and the track got slippery. Behold, just as the first set of motos ended, the rains started coming. As the beginning motos of round 2 ended, it turned into a huge downpour! As we were sitting in the van, being thankful we werent racing for some time yet, the rains began to taper off, and a couple motos before ours, it stopped, and the sun came out bright as ever! The track was slopping with water laying everywhere. Trikes, even with Turf Tamers hook up much better than quads with Holeshots in the mud, so we both ran about dead even for 2nd place in the holeshot. The guy in front of us had mud tires on his quad, and he ed it in the loop, and we simultaneously went blind and ended up tangling for a few moments as we pulled our goggles off. Several passes later he was in 2nd again, and I was in 4th. I went to make a pass on an uphill, and jsut as i got close enough, I got roosted with no goggles, and could only see out of one eye at this point. I caught back up with the guy, but never got the chance to make a pass. Out of 9, we finished 2nd and 4th overall. It was a good day for trikes, and finally, I wasnt the only one there for the first time in a couple of years.

Husky Photo was there taking pictures that they sell. http://www.huskyphoto.com/ They have them on their website. If you look under July 4th, Smith Road Raceway, in the Quads section, we are pictured in the last couple sets of photos.
