how to make big red a beast

I might buy my grandpas big red i think is an early eightis not positive. I was just wondering if theres anyway i can make that thing a good trail bike but still have some nice speed. Instead of goin with a mass produced exhaust im gonna make my own I've done it on motorcycles before unless you cant for some reason. Post ways to make the red a beast

I put a hi flow air filter and a new Full Cobra Exhaust kit on it. I had to customize the original heat shield to fit the Cobra pipe but it wasnt hard and looks like the stock header pipe. These two mods gave it quite a bit more power. Easily pulls the front end off the ground now. Didnt give it any more top end though. Gearing stayed the same. Cant overcome the gear ratio. lol

a big red IS a beast as is...with everything just stock. exhausts don't make a bike go faster or slower...or give it more or less power, they just make it louder or softer. the engine is what makes a bike go fast or slow. a big red might move slow when compared to other bikes like a 250r, but it's only because a big red doesn't need to move fast for anybody...or for any other bike for that matter. a big red will go through a brick wall.

Hey sorry dude but the Cobra exhaust allows the bike to make more power. Like I said it easily pulls the front end off the ground now. It didnt do it quite as easy before. I didnt buy the exhaust. Buddy bought it and decided it was to loud for hunting so I swapped him my stock exhaust for the new Cobra exhaust. Saying that a more free flowing pipe makes no difference is a crock. None of these exhaust manufacturers would be in business if that was the case. As a matter of fact I raced my buddy on his 85 Big Red against my 87 Big Red. The only difference was my Cobra Exhaust and his stock exhaust. I was able to get up to top speed much quicker than he. And I out weigh him by about 35-40 lbs. Again saying it doesnt make a difference is a crock. Yes a big red is a beast and mine would give my SX a run for its money. Why because of the exhaust. Plane and simple.
