it only has a cobra exhaust and no airbox lid with a uni. if i floor the gas it putts and dies out if i dont have the choke wide open. do i just need to adjust the air fuel mixture or the needle clip?

You are going to need to rejet the carb. The pilot should be ok but you are going to have to get a bigger main jet.
