    Lightbulb CHrome Plastics

I was watching SPIKE TV last weekend and on the funk master flex show where he customizes cars he had some stuff sent off to chrome on CA. They have a new spray on chrome that looks just like real chrome. He chrome plated a foam football for a football player and none off the chrome chipped when that played with it. I am thinking about trying to contact someone who does this to try to get all my plastics chromed. How sweet would that be on a dune machine.

i doubt it cost much, finding the people who do it, is the problem., there is many parts covered in the "chrome" in other hobbies (such as r/c car rims and crap) and it doesnt last long at all, sure it looks good for a couple days, but, hit it with a rock, or scrape a curb, or a stick, goodbye chrome!, not to mention it would look stupid as hell on a bike, chome fenders? wtf? might as well be one of those idiots on ebay who make there fenders out of sheet metal and 5 gallon buckets.

It can't be a normal chroming process because when parts are dipped the nickel or whatever is used to coat it is usually at a boiling temperature...which would be more then a enough to turn plastics into nothing.

billy, what it is actually is a coat of plastic,, cooler plastic, i was reading the mag on how they did it in this issues car action,, and what they do is take the part, rough it up a bit, and just dip it in this melted plastic "chrome" it melts at alot of a cooler temp then the normal plastic so it doesnt harm what your coating when it goes on, but the downside is,, its ALOT weaker, and it tends to chip in no time flat, especially if its done by the wrong person, it wont even stick to the fender after a day or two.

what they offer is totally different then a chrome coating process, they offer the chrome fender, which is molded just like normal old red 250R fenders, not coated like this dude is talking about.

Well the chroming proccess that was on that show was supposed to be brand new. There is no dipping. It is spayed on. First they spray somthing that is supposed to make it bond and then they spray on the chrome. My guess would be that the first coat is some type of addhesion promotor. My brother is the painter at our shop and about 2 weeks ago all the paint reps were giving him info on abrand new chrome paint. It is $1,200 a gallon and I think that this is the same stuff. It is bright enough for you to easily see your reflexion in. And as far as the way it would look i think it would be awsome. Everbody is entitled to thier opion I guess. As long as it will stay on as good as regular paint it will be ok with me. My banshee has Flip-Flop paint that changes eleven different colors on it and i love it.

That Banshee's awesome....I really like the way chrome looks on a quad. But too much chrome on a bike is...it is pretty ugly. Just my 2 cents.
