    86 LT 250r compared to my 350X

i have a line on an 86 suz. lt 250 i have a really nice 350X it has the cobra exaust and k&n. it runs really good. it is just a little faster than my cousins scrambler 400 2x4.

so i have a nice 4 stroke. i have been wanting a 2 stroke to go really fast like 80+ mph. i dont know anything about an 86 lt 250 i started it up it ran good. it has just been reringed. its all stock i'd like the stability of 4 wheels.

any ways my question is i want something faster than my 350X and faster than a 400 scrambler. any info on the lt 250 would be great. thanks.

they are a sweet quad.,, but never were real reliable.. and they usually had a bad vibration.. but they run just like the honda 250r.. if its cheap,. less then, 1k,, pick it up.. if not, i say spend the extra cash and get it the honda!!! lots of parts!
Ride it like you stole it! And never look back! They are too far behind to see!

Getting rid of the 350 already?

The quadracer is about 30lbs lighter than the 350x (290lbs vs 320lbs) and has a few more hp. The fact that the quadracer is lighter, having more hp and being a quicker revving 2-stroke it will accelerate faster than the X. I've never ridden a quadracer but when comparing the 350X to my old Tri Z they have a much different power bands. The 350 had great low end and mid range where the Z was more mid to top end power.

no not getting rid of your old X dyno.

keep in mind this is an 86 lt 250. i just looked up a bunch of stuff on it. and it turns out the 85 and 86 arn't as good as the 87 and ups. i love my 350X i have it geard down for tight trails i was thinking it would be nice to have a 2 cycle for some racing.

top speed of the 86 lt250 is only in the low 60s. we got the X up to 50 in about 200 yards and didnt even get to the top of 5th gear.(with gps and higher gearing)

Sounds like you're having fun with it. :-) What did you do for gearing on the X?

put a 12 tooth up front. i ride it a few times a week. last night i was out riding for a few hours, coverd head to toe in mud and water. sorry but the stickers didnt last to long since i wash it a few times a week.

with the 12 tooth i stay about 10 yards behind the scrambler on a long race. any one know the top speed of a scrambler? cause thats what the top speed is on my X with 12/42 with 20" tires.

The main reason for the 85/86 being less desirable than the newer LTs is the lack of Powervalving. With some good cylinder port work, the 85/86 LT can be fast as the others, but I would just stick to the newer years to save ya some frustration.

    I think you might have mis-spoken there .... The '85 - '86ers were 320lbs, the '87 - '90 LT250R are 325lbs and the '91 - '92 LT-Rs were 330lbs. The 1985 - 86 ATC350X's weighed in at 320lbs dry.

    A. what model/year Scrambler 400 or 500 and
    B. what kind of mods does the Scrammy have.

Out of the box the 500 Scrammy's top speed is 60mph even. The 400's is 62mph.

the scrambler is a stock 400 2x4. on pavement my little cousin who weighs around 100 pounds can beat me in a really long race. i think thats cause i'm geard so low.

i'm keeping my 350X i was just thinking of getting a 2 stroke quad for some faster racing type stuff.

the reason i asked about the lt 250r is becasue there was one forsale down the street. and i wanted to get some info on how it would compare to my X

    thanks for all the input.
