    Question Howdy or somebody--need some serious 110 help!!

    Ok, I'll try to explain the best I can but I have a diagram of the stuff I'm referring to, so please look at it. (All the #'s are referring to diagram)

    My problem: 1982 ATC 110 cam chain tensioner...I have a very loose chain thats flapping against the motor like crazy and the chain is new.

    Well, to start off... when I take the nut and washer off located on the bottom of the tranny(#18 & 19) I can tighten the adjustment screw all the way in (#12) and the chain still flaps around. There is also oil coming out of the bottom of the tensioner screw and when I do take the nut off a big gush of oil splashes out and leaks a few drops of oil every time I ride it but when it's parked it doesn't leak at all. Ok, now for the part I don't understand. What does #'s 22, 10, and 25 do? They are located underneath the gear lever. Mine seems to be stripped or something, it will not tighten up at all. Is there a fix for that? A guy told me that piece (#10) is to hold the tensioner rod (#9) in place and keep it from vibrating loose. Is this true? Even if it is, I could see like after a while of riding the chain would get loose again from vibration, but even when I tighten the tensioner all the way, as soon as I start it up, it does the same thing (flapping around...no better, no worse) Could #3, 4 or 17 be wore out and need replaced? Also, what do I do about #10 being stripped out? I'm gonna be taking the motor out of the frame to paint it and put a set of new rings on it, I guess I'll go ahead and take off the left sidecase too. Is there any signs of wear I need to keep a close eye on when disassembling these parts? Howdy or somebody that knows about this tensioner assembly...I need your help!! Thanks!!

    22, 10, and 25 work as a group to lock the tensioner push rod. I am willing to bet this is your bassis for your cam chain problem ( if #10 is stripped out ). I say this because without #10 being tightened down the cam chain adjuster can loosen up, due to the spring being a light duty spring. If the adjuster loosens up it will cause the chain the slap around in the motor and possibly do some damage.
    Is there a fix for #10 being stripped? You could try a heli coil. You could also try to make pin ( like #10 ) out of a 1/4 inch bolt. Then tap the hole to 1/4 threads. You would need to replace #22, 10, & 25.

    Oil out of the adjuster: This is sorta common. There should be a cap ( #18 ) that goes into the hole. This cap should hold the oil in so it don't leak out.

    I am 90% sure I have a 82 110 bottom end. We can talk via email about that.
