    timing for a 185s honda

    could anyone help me with how to set the timing for a 185s honda atc

    Sure. First, take out the small plug in the block above the flywheel. this will allow you to see the side of the flywheel (you may need a flAshlight). On the flywheel are 2 letters, t and f. Between these letters is a line. Line this up with the arrow on the block. Next, take the cdi cover off. look at the position of the magnetic pulser. Is the line on the pulser lined up with the line on the black box? If not, then disassemble the top end and set the cam into the head lobes down. there will be a mark on the camshaft gear, line this up at 12 oclock. Make sure the bottom end is still in time. Put it all together and it should go. If not, check for spark. If you have spark but it wont run, check the valve clearances. if these are correct, then try taking the magnetic pulser apart from the advance weights and flipping it 180. If this doesn't work, you may have a weak stator or a bad cdi. Hope this helps. I will chk back in a few days to see if you replied.

    ok hes got it pretty much ...on mine the guy at the atv place told me to take off the starter becasue its easier to get it in place...there is actullay 2 lines with the t and f ...one for t and one for f it looks like this /f /t ecept straight with a lil bubble lookin thing on the top...allign it with the t line and then take off the cdi pulser..also point the cam so the lobes are down...there is a litle line on the cam that u point at the arrow on the head cover which is straight up so u can do it that way also...then put the cam gear back on the cam and make sure that ever thing is lined up still at the bottom...the little o at the top of the cam gear should be pointing up with the arrow also...when its all lined up put it together and see if it runs

    Dan, the easiest way to check if the cdi rotor is correct is by looking in the plug hole. Check when the piston comes up if the valves are open. Then take a look at the rotor. The magnet should be at the bottom so that on the next revolution when the valves are closed (compression stroke) the sucker will fire. The cam as I see it from the left side should have the locating pin pointing to the 10-11 o clock position to be lobes down I guess.

    Remove pull starter
    Remove cam shaft
    Install cam chain onto cam sprocket in such a manner, that the T mark on the flywheel is aligned with the mark under the starter (you'll see it) and the o mark on the cam sprocket is aligned to the index mark on the cylinder head simotaneously.
    Insert cam shaft so little nub that sticks up points slightly to left of O mark on cam sprocket.

    Thats internal timing, spark timing is a no brainer.
