    Hard to beat a 250SX for trails... they arent blindingly fast but they have a gob of torque...not to mention REVERSE etc etc
    The only negative (IMHO) is their weight (357lbs) but that still lighter than the ES which tops 400lbs.

    Since the five speed is better than an 85 Tri-Z, Aircooled R and 84/85 Tecate would make nice trail bikes. I'd seriously look at getting a 350X, lots of lowend power, high top speed, great suspension mod by using 250R springs and damping rods.
