    250R Question

I have a 1984 250R frame, I am bidding on a 1983 250 R motor on ebay for it but today the guy changed his auction and said it was an 1982 motor. Will this motor still fit in the frame of my 84? Is there any downsides to using the older motor?

    Less power, maybe different mounts.

For the most part. 250r's are in groups 81-82 and 83-84, 85-86. I read somewhere on this site not long ago that there is a difference in the bottom end. I think maybe it was Troll that had a little problem. Might pm or email him for some info.

So does that mean the motor will not work at all in my frame?

it will mount right into your frame no problem, but there are a couple small differences, such as color, the shifter shaft is longer on the 82, then a couple small topend things are different, there really is not much performance differences at all, i personally ran a 82 motor in my old 84 i had for a long time, it made me happy, and there was just as much power as the 84, look at the specs on the site, and you'll see that there is no power differences.
Give me no lip and I tell you no lie.

Whats the deal here? Most of the posts you make are negative. Old saying is if you having nothing nice to say then dont say anything at all. Doesn't seem to hard to follow.

    The '84 250r had a higher compression ratio then the '81-83' 250r.
The '84 has 7:1 while the others have 6.7:1. The '81 and '82 also have a smaller carb than the '83 and '84.

The mounts are the same... I think it should be fine. If it isn't, I have a spare 83 motor here. Needs to be finished ported and honed, but has the carb and kicker, etc. I bought it as a spare for my 82R. If there's a way to switch the exhaust mounts, feel free to call me and we can swap the parts.
