    Man, I love this site...

    Nothing like talking trike.

I'm with you guys....paying BIG $$$ for a pipe for our bikes just isn't cost-effective.
It would take a monster engine with a HEAVY breathing cylinder head to warrant a mega-dollar pipe....that may not even flow any better than a Cobra or DG.

See my next post about pipe diameter vs. horsepower.

    Post Pipe diameter versus Horsepower......

    You guys got me thinking.
I have built numerous car and truck exhausts in the past and have used Flowmaster's charts and recommendations....not always their mufflers.....for pipe diameter vs. flow.

    Here is what they say:
The size of pipe used in an exhaust system is a critical item to consider. Pipe diameter will affect the sound level and performance characteristics of the muffler, but keep in mind that bigger is not always better. Too large of a pipe can actually hinder exhaust scavenging by allowing atmospheric pressure up the pipe.

That being said, we have 1.5" tubing from the manifold back (the manifold HAS to flow plenty, just look at it).
Their chart doesn't go down to 1.5" but you can exponentially figure what that pipe will flow by using the closest pipe dia. in their chart: 2".
ONE 2" pipe will flow 100HP in a 150-200 CI engine.
And we're dealing with a MICRO engine compared to that.
Correct me if I'm wrong but 1.5" dia. exhaust on a 350cc engine should be capable of WAY more flow than we'll ever use or need.
So no matter what, our mufflers are probably overkill in the first place.....leaving muffler choice to more of a brand or sound preference.

    Sound logical?
Maybe it's the graveyard shift talking?

    About removing the end cap:
I've heard the Honda HRC end cap....pure thunder baby!!
Too loud for me but definitely Awesome.

    Thanks for listening, folks.

now all you need to do is get an aftermarket 450r pipe and mount that up

Once you get a 450R mounted and fit up you sure could!

But most aftermarket slip-on mufflers for the 450R are pricey!
    AND LOUD as hell!

    My brother has a 450R and he's contemplating hop-ups.
He'll probably use the HRC kit.
That would be plenty improvement without the excess noise.

    Stock vs. Aftermarket

If the stock 450R exhaust will fit on with little modification would that mean that an after market exhaust for the 450R would fit and that would give it more horse or am i wrong i mean for some more money u could have more power, but i guess the stock with end cap mod is good to i was just wonderin

just got mine in the mail. So Far, I will not be completing this tonight as my 4 12/ cutter is at the sisters house, but one thing I Have done diffrently so far is, I Unbolted the brake reservoir thing and just slimply flipped it the inside of the frame and bolted it back up. Then I put an extra heat sheild around the hose to be safe

Also, i am going to-do all I can to just use the rear grab bar bolt instead. I am thinking of picking up some exhaust tube from autzone and making a middle piece so I dont have to cut anything. Because if that work I can then A) keep the stock exhaust B) sell the stock exahaust and recoop the $ I spent on the ebay one :-) C) Put it back on after I realize I mangled some parts together and it runs like poooh ** Most likely C

I have the original stock tip assembly/arrestor. You want it? Maybe we can trade for your HRC tip. I currently have a HRC tip on my 350X. I love the HRC tip. Deep sounding exhaust. In my opinion its not too loud. Its quiter than the cobra and supertrap. Just right. My 87 BigRed with the cobra pipe is louder than it.

    Clay,

Can I purchase your stock end cap? I havent put the muffler on, but I was afraid it would be too loud, also I am a little afraid of getting caught in the forest by a ranger and the pipe saying "competition use only" on it.

    Thanks,
