To tell you the truth, my bike gets pretty pampered with my riding style.
    Would it hit?
    I don't THINK so.
The big muffler is off to the side "just enough" to be out of the plane where the caliper would rise on a hard bottom-out.....I think....

    Take care!

Well, it fit the "no-name" exhaust I had.....

It's measurement on my "no-name" exhaust was 1.5" (approx.) O.D..
The stock 450R is approx. 1.5" as well.
Is a Cobra the same OD?

And since the stock 450R muffler fits...that means just about every aftermarket slip-on muffler for the 450R should fit too. I, myself, have been wondering if the universal Whitebrothers E-Series could fit.
Well, I did the install because of the lack of a stock or quiet 350X replacement.
All the originals are either annhiliated/demolished or TOO pricey.
With the 450R, I got a stainless steel, MODERN design beauty for less than I had been seeing old worn out original mufflers.

Personally? I wouldn't shell out the cash for any of the 450R aftermarkets.
Those things are outrageous.....at least most I've seen.
My brother has been pricing them and the "performance per dollar spent" is completely off balance.

Check out the sweet Honda HRC Power-Up kit for the 450R.
Do you see a pipe or silencer upgrade? Nope.
Just a new end cap for MY muffler (stock 450R) with a larger outlet.
Check out the pic of the kit below for the end cap.
    Makes you think, huh?
I've seen a knock-off of the end cap on Ebay by an independent maker.
So you can get the cap alone, do a jet change and get some more power for chump change.

    Just my 2 cents, though.
I hate to see someone spend foolishly and get VERY little improvement.

I kept telling myself to join this site.
I used it a LOT while shopping for a three wheeler.
I came "this close" to getting a PAIR of Tri-Z's and a SHED full of Z parts but the Z's were a little too "high strung" for my riding habits.
One was NICE the other was rideable but in need of attention.

Glad I went with the X, though.
It fits me to a TEE!
Size of the bike and the power is JUST right.

Being on a budget, I KNEW there were more folks on here in the same boat as me......so posting an inexpensive "upgrade" like my muffler was a given!

Anyhoo.....now I just need to find some spare time to ride that bad boy!!
    Darned grave yard shift.

    Take care, folks!

    Post Why I did it........

I'll just restate the reasons for why I did the install.

    Aftermarket versus 450R comparison:
    • Aftermarket is unnecessarily LOUD.
      450R equals quiet/efficient power.
    • Aftermarket is made out of painted steel or thin aluminum, usually.
      450R is 100% Stainless Steel.
    • Aftermarket is based on 20+ year old technology.
      450R is 2004-2005 technology.
    • Aftermarket provides VERY little (more than likely NO) improvement over the muffler I installed.
450R is from the strongest, most high-tech 4 stroke ATV Honda has ever produced so it stands to reason the stock muffler FLOWS VERY WELL. Again....see the Honda HRC Power-Up kit: Do you see a replacement muffler? Nope...just an end cap with a larger outlet for the stocker.
    • Aftermarket costs 3+ times what I spent for the 450R.
450R mufflers are available only slightly used on Ebay for a song.

    Thanks for listening, folks.

Might I interject that the 20 year old technology might be whats best for a 20 year old motor .......

Regardless of anything else, from what I've read, what you have mounted there is MUCH better than what you had on her and you can't beat the price you got it for. It looks to me like you could mount it without welding the frame simply by using a small piece of metal stock and a longer bolt for the rearmost grab rail mount or by "straddling" the two rail mounts with a longer piece of flat stock or slotted stock and mounting it. Personally, I would probably just take your "aftermarket grab rail" advice, and just drill a hole through the frame.

If someone wanted to make a couple of bucks they could make some adapter kits real easily.

Believe me, I don't claim to be a master fabricator.
I just "got it mounted safe and secure".
I'd LOVE to have an aluminum grab bar, mine is in horrible shape.
I'll end up doing the drilling/mounting if I get my hands on one in aluminum.

I have a 110V wire feed welder that is SOOOOO handy for these little fab jobs, that it's almost easier to grab it and go than to set up and drill!

Since we all know that there'll be a LOT of these 450R mufflers thrown away in the near future by all those mislead folks throwing a mountain of money at their new bikes in the pursuit of more power.
Just like our beloved dinosaurs had done way back when.....that's why it's so hard to find a good original.

We may as well cash in on all those 450R mufflers being tossed!

I'd LOVE to do a kit like that but I don't feel like dealing with the inevitable cry-baby's and folks who don't know a wrench from a door knob.
Yes, they'll be the minority but it only takes a handful of them to drive you whacko and destroy the profit margin.

Can you get some pics of the "junk" muffler? I might be interested in it. And can you get a sound clip with that 450r muffler on? I am thinking about replacing my cobra, because of the too much noise/ too little of a power gain. And did you notice a power gain going from one to another?
