Painting Question

I got the 350x all torn down. I had the frame and gas tank painted (stock colors). Now Im ready to paint the engine. Has anyone had any luck painting the engine without disassembling it. If you did what did you do to prep it and what kind of paint, high temp?? The last thing I want is to have it all put together and the paint starts peeling of the motor

I removed all the dirt and grease from my engine with a wire brush drill attachment. The paint sticks and looks good , but when it's pretty fresh and you get mud on any hot part of the engine, it burns in leaving a dull spotted look. A coat of Armor-All makes it look new again - I used Krylon Gloss Black. I painted my head pipe with high temp, but it only lasts so long until it looks old again.

Same here. I used a wire brush, and painted it with hi tem duplicolor engine paint. Held up real good. Armorall keeps it fresh looking.

i too have done a couple of assembled motors.
i put wooded plugs in the intake + exhaust and capped off all other openings then sandblasted them. 1 motor i buffed out ,,, another i painted black w/high temp engine paint then clear coated with high temp clear , the other motor i done i just clear coated ( big red motor )

Thanks for the info, did anyone use a primer after sandblasting or wire brushing? That engine looks sweat jes!

A sandblaster will definitely give you better results. I've painted two so far,with almost 2 years on the first and it still looks good.I used high temp silver stove paint,no primer.

If you use case paint such as PJ1, you'll get the best results. It's heat, gas and oil resistant.
