    tri z motors

    Hi guys
    Just wondering if its possible to tell the difference between 85 and 86 tri-z motors. I have come across 3 complete and running motors. Im wanting to find out which one is which because lm wanting a 6 speed box... Any help would be great...

    hay wheres about in aus are you. anyway the 85 had the 5speed and the 86 had the 6speed. anyway hope this helps

    yes there is a way by case #.
    the 85's are 38w
    the 86 are 1rx
    other than that there are identical.
    unless someone replaced them then they could be 5x5.

    Not sure about Yamahas but Hondas have the gear pattern stamped on the crankcase near the shifter.
