Restore a trike or part it out?

Lets take the 200X for example, casue there are so many. What do you think is the ratio of the number of 200x's that get restored and put back into service to the number of 200X's that get parted out, like to sell on ebay?

I have been combing the recycler in my area (so cal) and I have been finding allot of 200X's for $250 to $500 that don't run but look decent. I wonder do the people that buy them fix them or are they sacraficed to the ebay.

Has anyone ever heard of someone actually buidling a trike from the ground up, like they bought a frame on ebay and started from there.

PS - While looking I found a guy in San Diego, Calif that has 3 1984 200x's all run perfect that he is asking $650 each for them. They look nice if anyone is interested. Go to cycletrader.com. There is also a guy down that way that has a 1983 that has only been riden 3 times since new and its cherry.

I have done both. Most of the time I will buy a trike and fix it up to where it runs well and looks ok then after riding it for a few times I sell it to finance the next project. I do it because I like working on trikes and not to make money (out of the 8 trikes that I have owned only 1 was running when I got it), most of the time I just break even. I have also parted out a couple of trikes but that was because I knew that the majority of it was missing or in poor condition and it wouldn't have a chance of giving me the money back that I put in to it.

I'm bad about buying one strictly for parts, then getting bored and restoring it,and back to no parts again when needed . Its a sickness!

You guys are right. Restoring is an addiction or shall I say a sickness...a good one though. 3 wheelers are like stray cats - you want to take them all in and help them but you can't.

I probably have almost 2 grand into my 200X but I do it casue I enjoy it just like an classic car collector. Some people get there fix through snorting and smoking there. I get my fix drinking beers out in the desert or mountains sitting back and looking at a show room condition 3 wheeler that I made that way.
