Question Question about 81-82 250r front fender

Hi everybody, I recently Found a stock front fender for my 82 250r. After I got it, I then realized that it is not louvered like the old cracked up maier fender that is currently on it.

Does the stock fender block to much air to the fins?
Has the stock design been deemed inferior?
Is it ok to run with the stock fender?
Am I asking to many questions?

Please reply, if you can help. Opinions, facts, or any thoughts on this matter will be greatly appreciated.

Being an aircooled motor I would say the stock fender restricts the air flow to much. I have seen alot of old pictures where it looks like they took a hole saw and drilled a bunch of holes in the back side of the stock fender. I am currently redoing a ' 82 R and I put a louvered fender on it. Just my 2 cents.

Thumbs up I think your right dirtface

I'm not going to put the stock fender on. I don't want to drill it out and I don't want to rebuild my machine after it overheats. I will just get an aftermarket one.

I don't imagine that running a stock fender will hurt the bike. If you want a nice look and the better air flow then bob the rear section of the fender 6 inches.

... just remember that you've got a thing called a "front wheel" on there that blocks alot more air than any fender could, especially it being a balloon 22x11x8. If you can get a good deal on the OEM fender, get it, otherwise the Maier is your only choice anyway, so .... I'll also throw this out there for consumption - I would think a louvered fender would let more mud and debries through that could clog the motors cooling fins (saying this, I had the Maier fender on my '82R though. )

Thumbs up I placed an order for a new Maier fender

Rather than temp fate, I just don't want to use the stock one. So I got a louverd one on the way. Also bought a DG type II silencer for my 84 T3 It's nice to still be able to get some of this stuff new. 350x in newyork, The stock fender is slightly cracked up top (can't see it on the bike) If you want it let me know.
