Fast Trekkers, Turf Tamers, Cheng Shin Ice Tire

Need opinion on these tires for my 85 Tecate. I want an 18 inch tire on a 10 inch rim so that rules out the 18inch Turf tamer which blows cause it would be my choice if it came for a ten inch wheel.

So now I'm left with the Trekker and the Ice tire.

Want a tire that will hook up off the line in a grass/hardpack environment and still slide around fairly easy.

Opinions wanted and I'm open to other tires as long as its not Holeshots/Razrs/Shredders.

The trekkers. They look like they would hook up good in grass. Get the 18 inchers. They look awesome as well.

I had the Cheng Shin's on my 200x and was very surprised by how well they worked for trail riding. Not familiar with the trekkers though.

The 10" rim is pretty much going to rule out almost any 18" tire. I dont think any of those you mentioned make one. The Turf Tamer is probably the best tire for what you are describing. You can either go with any you mentioned in a 20" tire, or I show your stock rims for 85 Tecate as being a 4/156 bolt pattern in which case, Id suggest some 9" Banshee or Warrtior rims which will give you a much greater tire selection.

The Cheng Shins seem like they would hook up as good as the Turf Tamers. The Trekkers look awsome with such a low profile but not much grip?

The Cheng Shins will hook up very good, and depending on which particular Cheng Shin tire you mean, probably better than the Turf Tamers but you mentioned the ability to slide as being important, and a higher pressure flat profile tire always works best for that. Turf Tamers are still popular dirt track tires for that reason.

Can someone post a pic of a turftammer i did a search and to me the picture's i;m seeing looks like a regular knobbie,if thats the case i say knobbies only work good on the front,i would recomend the itp mudlights for all around trail riding tho,so far i'm pretty happy with the ones on my trike, although i haven't tested them to the max yet i'm pretty impressed so far..

Cheng Shin C826 were listed on DennisKirk and ScottZJ had a set of 18 inch Trekkers on his ten inch wheels for the Tecate.

I was under the impression that the 4/156 pattern was too big to fit in a 9 inch wheel. Am I right when I say that Tecate hubs will not fit into a 9 inch wheel? Hope I am wrong cause I don't want to have to buy 84 hubs, wheel spacers to match, and then tires and wheels...

My 2004 DK Offroad catalog doesnt list any of those tires in an 18x10, but I guess its not all inclusive.

Pardon my mental meltdown! The Yammies use 4/156 on the fronts, which is a 10" rim. There may not be a 9" rim available for it.

    I had the cheng shing tires on my 85 R, i got them from freaksfix, they were grooved for better traction, let me tell you, they surprised the hell out of me in all weather, good traction and good sliding ability, here's some pic for you;

    winter

spring (like 2 weeks into spring when the ground is real soft and muddy)

hmm, thought i had more, but you get the idea. i liked them.

    they were the 20x11-9

Thats quite alright Tim, excuse my mistake for listing 18x10 Cheng Shins, I double checked and they were not there but they make 20x10.

Think I'll do the 20x10 Cheng Shins, look like they'd last longer then the Tamers and I can stud them since they were designed for it. Still would love a 18x10 inch Tamer, they are stupid for not making it.
